RE: Civilian carrier. Preparation phase - Eugen - 04-07-2016 well my taste goes to the tigerclaw from the wingcomander movie . as bad as the movie is but the ship gave a very solid self suficend feeling . also the bays are inside the main bulk. Tigerclaw Docking bay frontal i know you will not take it 1-1 for copyright issues but maybe it gives some idea. RE: Civilian carrier. Preparation phase - Thyrzul - 04-07-2016 If EVA suits would suit (lol) all the needs of a pilot out in space itself, why would we need escape pods? The elevator thing makes more sense, but then the ships get into the body of the carrier anyways, so having hangar bays isn't much different, just a big door instead of a big elevator.

Elevators just need to be as big around as the standard fighters used by the aforementioned carrier - furthermore, Most carrier-bay elevators I've seen have another cover that go over the openings when the elevator is in use. Either way, still a smaller target RE: Civilian carrier. Preparation phase - Thyrzul - 04-07-2016 So this time this carrier would be different from the rest that it wouldn't have a door on it's side, but on it's top, and we'll RP that there's an elevator below it, right? RE: Civilian carrier. Preparation phase - Sciamach - 04-07-2016 All I'm sayin' is that the difference would be refreshing: all of our carriers so far just use boring ol' bays-- a flight deck would be something new New things are nice RE: Civilian carrier. Preparation phase - Swallow - 04-07-2016 Good points, but this is not going to be a military grade ship, that should allow compact placement, high alert and rapid deployment of its crafts. RE: Civilian carrier. Preparation phase - Swallow - 04-07-2016 I'd think of it as of a garage instead, where you park you hippie van and ride into the sunset inside your mobile home... Well, good example or not, is up to you, but I aim at a "town-ship", yes, with jump ability and ability to host ships in its bays. But in this case I see the meaning of "carrier" as a "human" carrier in first place. Meaning it is fully suited (an developed?) for hosting population in relative comfort. A small colony ship, because Zoner's colony ship is rather exclusive, liners are not match to it with their aim at maximum passenger load and limited travel time in first place. RE: Civilian carrier. RE: Civilian carrier. Preparation phase - Haste - 04-07-2016 For stats I'd aim for something capable of defending itself but not overly great at aggression (slow yet relatively heavily armed / armoured?). Incorporating the ship's fairly unique jump capabilities into the design would be cool as well. And as mentioned before, it used to be defined by its number of docking bays, and I'd like to keep it that way stats-wise. So yeah, something to explore the great unknowns with, but not a military-grade patrol ship / carrier by any means. RE: Civilian carrier. Preparation phase - Swallow - 04-07-2016 Well, it is time to give it a try as a model! Let's dispatch like 30 mins for it while I am on the break. |
