Yeah this was the case back in the day, the server would lag so badly from just one person doing a mission that the server would pretty much crash. I know it's more stable now, I'm able to rep grind on missions and such... But that may very well still be the case if 20 people did missions all at once, the stress of loading something into space just for one person is far to great.

We used to kick/ban people for running missions back then I recall...*

Refer to part where I stated something along the lines of: if one person did a mission the server would have a high chance of crashing. Which, at the time, required a manual server restart.*

Ouch, yeah, that's pretty bad. At least people CAN do missions now, even if they don't earn cash as fast as trading.

If it was as good as trading it would be the same problem all over again, except instead of one person it will be a mass. Not a very logical idea, so you can either do one of two boring ass trades for massive cash. Or you can have some fun popping a ton of NPC's for a smaller amount of cash and some rep if you don't already have it.

I myself like to do a mix of both, just make an indy (grab a merc/freelancer ID) character and use what ships are available to you from the faction you do missions for. The RP backing behind having a ship you shouldn't have is; "I have such a good rep with faction x they were willing to reward my efforts with this ship." It's much more enjoyable, albeit more frustrating at times, than trading will ever match up too. Big deal you make less credits on it, don't you play this game just to have fun?*

Exactly. My character has a Smuggler's ID simply to create chaos with both lawful and unlawfuls. Sometimes it even carries honest to goodness smuggled goods (just a tad bit, it's npc faction would have his head if they knew he was padding on the side, or so I play him. Most of the cargo space is reserved for what the "bosses" are shipping. Extra space is what he gets to "pad his income" with.)
My Trader is the most heavily RP developed character, and I work real hard to have any encounter I can. It doesn't help my income with my attitude that there is no way in heck he'd have anything larger than a Transport. And his RP route is crap...

Er, so I don't have a power Trader when I think about it. I still don't play him very often. Trading results in my long-term inactivity quicker than anything else. It never fails, whenever I have to go on a large trading bender (like what I will have to do with helping to raise 500 million for a RP proposal) the probability of me going inactive for a month raise like that thing about the Nazis.

:nono:

Oops, it appears I have lost this argument. Ahh well.

Kudos to IND for getting back in the saddle. When five or six of those folk are on and grouped, I'll detour just to see what frivolty they're purveying.

Of course, the new mod will bring some excitement back into the business. While some will rush to go off into the "wild new yonder", seeking new routes and commodities, others will find drastic changes in their present economy that will call for extensive market research and re-routing.

I'm probably unusual in that I have three traders in my Zoner stable, but they each have their preferences and "assignments". You'll find Reggie churning the "Temple Run".. pilgrims from New York to the "vicinity" of Baffin, and our fine scrubby organisms back to CA Minor and Newark. That's his mission for the TAZ. Somewhat boring, but has its moments. He'll probably add our newest TAZ product to his repetoire as well.

Soph and Dis do the heavy hauling. Dis hits Canaria and the Omegas more, as it's her duty to check the Zoners down there for clean shorts. Sophie deals in heavy elements, with a rather unusual and discreet customer list.

So, buck up, Isaac. If none of the above works for ya, there's always your old gig as Chairman of the Zoner Council..?

Heheh, so you're that eager to shove off the responsibility on some poor Zoner who was MIA for over a year? Was there really no one else on the Council who was willing to step in and take the position?

To think, a Discordian responsible for maintaining order...

Noone is more aghast than I, Drake. and there was really noone willing to herd catmas at the time.

Now, i may just be tired and bloated from Yule feasting, but have i offended you somehow?

I mentioned the idea in passing, and half in jest. It's not as if I were eagerly shoving a brightly gift-wrapped turd down your chimney...

If it appeared that way,

then Happy Yule Log, mate!

Mal
I finally caught the spirit!

Oh, no, not offended, sorry if I gave that impression. Just mildly amused at how quickly you were ready to shed the mantle of Chairbeing. If you really want to, I'll consider the offer. I've been thinking I really need to get back into the forum RP, at least a little bit.

Anyway, pleasant holidays to you. Cheers.
