Balancing the events against players with the most IRL time and patience is not the way to go either. [12:03:35 AM] Justin Hopkins: What I mean by that, just to clarify, is that after someone grinds like 15 runs or so, give them a codename or a NEMP torp or contrails or something. [12:03:42 AM] Justin Hopkins: And do it for everyone, at a set limit. [12:03:48 AM] Justin Hopkins: Which encourages everyone to participate. I've done some PVE events in Penny in the past and saw players end up dying to literally the most weakest mission npcs we have in the game, the ones which do 30dmg per shot. If it is not that - it is the fact that more experienced players are eager to take part in these events and bring their battleships. That is their right and there is no actual reason to restrict them - as even their presence is what I would say - inspiring for the newbie to see, but it still leaves an issue to be solved. racing events problem solved RE: How about some events here? - Reddy - 10-16-2017 (10-16-2017, 04:31 AM)ristallderon Wrote: Maybe. but i think even 1 event per week isnt enough I think its more than enough. There were actual NPCs that a fighter could shoot and do damage to. Its official statistic and any gameserver admin MUST know that any player who play any game more than 6 months and less then a 2 logs in MORE OFTEN (average 1.5x) EXACLY to join some kind of event. Numbers may vary from game to game depending on time needed to achieve maximum character/account condition as 100% for first number and 20% for second, but the axiom works the same way for any game. And 2 things u need to do: 1). Create event interesting for beginners to make them feel comfortable and give them ILLUSION of faster progressing 2). Repeat this for top players to hold them after they reach everything possible in game and HERE before 4,84 was flyin 200 players every night for 1 reason - CHANGES that was interesting, global and frequent. Now here are no interesting changes last years. i was here last time 1 or 2 years ago and when i re-join week ago i see almost the same game i leaved and now online never reachs 100 So i think someone must do someshing or disco will die as many other popular mods. Guys 200 000 players a day playn Diablo 2 created in 1995! And reason is the same - changes 12 y.o. kid knows nothing about balance and game engine. He needs just more guns, more cool shaped ships, atd one thing he needs is "MORE!". Give him MORE and ur server will shine like a star until the end of the times

Diablo is not a roleplay-heavy server so the game has to maintain balance for the interactions it withholds in them. disco Freelancer was made by fewer people. whereas diablo was made by blizzard so of course it's going to gain far more attention. and besides, that kind of game genre is more popular. The developers here have a life of their own and with the small ammount there is, they can't be working 24/7 to sufficiently meet everyones needs. only the primary objective. One last thing: As i said previously, you need to learn how the community works. The makers of these events have to also sort out any bombardment of complaints that come along their way to make the right event, Which is far different to diablo. Discovery freelancer does not revolve around events entirely. it's the interactions outside of them that primarily makes up for it. If you see these trade events, almost all the people involved in them just fly around trying to avoid interactions, Which is not the prime objective for this particular modification. RE: How about some events here? - Sombs - 10-16-2017 And normal trading and PvP dies because all people are waiting for is the next event. You're comparing apples and submarines. The very beginner of Discovery has really enough things to do. Exploring the map, meeting people and factions, grinding for money for the first battleships and CAU8. They really get already easy money with Helium and better selling prices in Penny, thanks to Spazzy. All the events are more promoting already established players but also allow greenhorns to partake, usually with them violating server rules. We really have had plenty of events already. And the result is that people trade over night, have mixed interactions over day and a peak in PvP during general peak times. Trust me, the player count is unrelated to the "lack" of events. It is more of a problem dev-wise and the fact that we don't have effective advertisment and the fact that Freelancer is currently abandonware. Apart from that, you're also trying to compare the mod onf an RP server of a game that is older than a decade with non-sandboxy games with active support from the developers. RE: How about some events here? - ristallderon - 10-16-2017 sure i dont know nany things about this game, but i play it since release and Void/Discovery mods also since they was created. Now Void mod is dead and Disco was stuck in 2012... HAF is dead, BAF playn time to time with 4-5 ships, LNS is poor, Outcast factions are just some symbols before the charname and ,:j:, are just shadows of one of the epic faction ruleing Omicrons as the TBH and that outcast faction i dont remember because never fly for them 101st and something else more powerful... cant remember
RE: How about some events here? - Sombs - 10-16-2017 Nothing is supposed to live forever. The only way Discovery would get a big bulk of attention would be if people would somehow manage to release Freelancer for Steam, GOG and stuff, but that won't ever happen for reasons as we know by now. |
