Good question. Planetform is a broad enemy of the Gaians who has a regular passage route through Hudson. Plus Liners are quite well armed and will be able to do some damage during the fight. The intention is to at least mimic civilian traffic passing through the fight zone. Last couple of events where we threw transports in, the Transports did significant damage and valuably contributed to the combat.
In addition one of the motivators for these events is to draw attention to factions which are not frequently played, and to show their RP possibilities for conflict. This also has the secondary effect of reminding traders that transports can do damage, and encourages them to fight pirates.

No battlecruisers allowed in this one as neither the Gaians nor the Unioners have them, and they're really difficult to balance by adding more ships of other classes. Sorry Kalh.

It's just that neither the Gaians or the Unioners have battlecruisers, make it a difficult balance proposition.
