It would be more realistic to delete the ship and leave the cash.

Discovery environment as it is discourages such approach, community is used to it and will not go outside of their zone of comfort.
Enforcing it will be detrimental to the mod.

What about maintenance costs after destruction? You get killed, you have to pay the ship (15% of original price of half, for example).
