RE: Decriminalizing Multiboxing - Egon Bigmemes - 07-05-2020 'no' RE: Decriminalizing Multiboxing - LuckyOne - 07-05-2020 ^ Anyone with an ounce of computer savy can already do this using a VPN / or even just a tethered connection from your mobile, completely undetected, unless somebody notices during the interaction and reports him. The rule as it currently stands acts as just a slight deterrent to abuse. So I'm all for lifting the rule for at least one additional client / connection. This would also fix problems with people who play at a friend's house, or family playing in the same household, or even some cases when the ISP is using the same address for multiple people (which is becoming more common lately because of IPv4 address shortage). RE: Decriminalizing Multiboxing - TheShooter36 - 07-05-2020 No. RE: Decriminalizing Multiboxing - SwiftWing - 07-05-2020 Limiting it to no more than 2 Chars by the same person gives the server a lot more possibilities for Interaction, On our Old Server PTC/Chaos that's all we where allowed is a Max of 2, and we never had any problems. the restriction was CAP Ships, Military and Pirates only one per Person. So a Military group could run a Repair ships transport etc but not another Military ship etc same for the Pirates they could also run Repair ships and Transport class ships as well. It worked very well. Our Server also allowed Multi Boxing so we could log 2 ships on the same PC and just Alt Tab between them. The reason is the people without 2 Computers didn't like others doing it that had 2 Comps. and they could not. and for POB's made it easier to keep up with bases. didn't have to spend all day trying to keep up. But it was allowed to Mine and fill your own transports or others with your transports there. it sure didn't hurt the game or the Interaction. if A Pirate caught them they always paid double RE: Decriminalizing Multiboxing - McNeo - 07-05-2020 I'd like there to be an exception to multiboxing only in Connecticut for the purpose of equipment transfers between your own banks. I notice someone highlighted some old exceptions but I'm not sure if they're in place anymore. Would probably guess not, unless some authoritative clarification was forthcoming. Aside from that though, banning multiboxing is fine. To not ban it would turn the game credit economy into even more of a joke than it already is. RE: Decriminalizing Multiboxing - LuckyOne - 07-05-2020 All I see is lame excuses and cheap pulling the "but it hurts my RP-pp cards". Or great examples of constructive criticism displayed by few particularly wordy people. /s Nobody has four hands, remember? This seems like a suggestion that would actually make piracy worth it, instead of people having to look for the pirates to get pirated. Hell it might even make cargo piracy worth it, for example having a cloaked transport nearby... If we're gonna argue RP, the current situation also limits RP severely. What if I want to RP a corporation trying to develop mining/hauling drones? Do you think I could SRP a rule exemption?
RE: Decriminalizing Multiboxing - McNeo - 07-05-2020 No actually, the gameplay effect of multiboxing would inflate the costs of any non-obtainable equipment such as sci-data and event guns, such as to make them completely unobtainable for people starting out playing or, worst case scenario, not for credits at all. These pieces of equipment are already ridiculously expensive in credit terms, converting for their equivalent cost in sci-data at 3m/unit, but if you triple the credit supply, you can say hello to 10m/unit and a single Sledge/Acrobatic setting you back 5 billion credits. Might as well also remove every cap armour below 6, since only 6, 7 and 8 will be relevant (6 and 7 for use on certain snubs that have the cargo for them). Since you don't seem to have noticed, game masters are trying to get credits out of the economy, not put more in. And there's no piracy example here. First of all, nobody ever pirates to make it "worth it" economically, unless you go back to the days of taxing gold miners in Dublin. Secondly, even if it could be worth it for one pirate to hold up a guy flying five transports, all you have to do is point those transports at 5 different bases, press F2/F3 depending on range and put a 200g weight on your tab key for each character. Then at most you lose one trader out of your five, and the pirate still doesn't get a payday. RE: Decriminalizing Multiboxing - Haste - 07-05-2020 Blue messages on silent, non-interacting, multiboxed power traders do not make pirates any money. I don't believe there are any benefits to doing this other than artificially raising the "players online" number (by inflating the number of credit-printing 'human bots' that nobody wants to interact with in the first place). Are the exceptions still current? yep!! back in the good old days that was allowed, and admins asked not to take too long doing it, and only when there was few people on the server, and i think that should be allowed, not only on Conn, like someone already said, but also on any base, because you can't get cargo to Conn, and sometimes there are special cargos that is necessary to transfer to a bank ship!
