It has something to do with consistency and believability of the game world. With the game's focus or at least high priority on RP and lore, you value these things higher.
And even the pvp oriented anti-rp person should appreciate sticking to names to avoid confusion.
Imagine renaming this new SHF to a much used ship like the Defiant instead. Now you suddenly don't know what your friend means you to shoot anymore.

Yeah just such a random and unnecessary change - you also Google the shipname and discovery and Gaian gb pops out on wiki. Just an oopsie that should be reverted
The new shipline are awesome,why not give them unique names they deserve

honestly, I said it in KNF chat but
this rename being the biggest controversy of the patch means it was a good and successful patch
it's kinda like when news report some irrelevant bullshit, all is well
