Bass is just a guitar with 4 strings, and sounds awesome.

Yes to the emo bit and the bass sounding awesome bit.

As for which you should play if you are prone to anger, hyperactivity or have a penchant for being misunderstood you should play the drums, based on most of the drummers I know...

And secondly, what do your feelings tell you when it comes to make a decision between the two?

I would go with the old guitar myself but its pretty tough to advance at it. That actually depends either on which would help you most to impress the people around you or make yourself feel better (or more mature perhaps) such that you'd have proven yourself with your own potential, once you advance at whatever you pick.

Hobby, most likely.

And by the way, the outcome of the poll is by no means the definite one I choose to learn. It'll be what is said about the specific instruments and how much people enjoy playingsten to each one respectively compared to how I feel about each one.

See, the reason I'm torn is because I enjoyed playing both, but it's been a really long time. And lately I've been listening to music for each part individually... To compare... Something. I dunno. But it's like the difference between apples and oranges. So hard to compare.

Basically, the reason I want to play drums is because of songs like Dani California or The Hand that Feeds and I want to play guitar because of songs like Cat's in the Cradle and Freebird.

No. Emos listen to emo bands.

Honestly, know your musical genres.

No joke, I've been playing guitar for, Umm... (finger calculator) 8 years and I still suck at soloing. :$

Also, when listening to music, do you find yourself tapping both hands and a foot or two to the music? Or are you the air-guitar type? Those subconscious habits may help you to decide as well. Also I have to ask, is it for "impressing friends" or a means of self-development?

Quote:Drummers never have to sing!

I've seen it done. Quite well too.

In order:

Hmm... I don't air guitar. Tap my foot or, usually, my thumbs to the drum beat. Not really for impressing friends, since... I could to that playing smoke on the water on guitar (which is four notes... x.x).

Yeah, not saying that it would be impossible to sing, I'd just rather not if I join a band... Unless some how I find I really enjoy singing and have a pretty good voice. And then... I'd just be a bundle of awesome and talent, which would blow my own mind and put me into a coma for a few days.

Depends on your definition of Emo, some people define it as emotional person, generally one that is open about it. But now I stop hijacking Virus' thread.

Virus will play bass, and he will form a band called "The Bacteria."

As for the emo stuff, by that logic, all music is "emo" because it all contains emotion in some way.

I won't play Bass. I've never had any urge to play bass... And if I did, I would play funk.

And if I started a band, it would not be called the Bacteria... Since no virus is a bacterium. Viruses can not be permanently destroyed. We are not truly alive! O.O

Edit:
I would like to note that the above "invincible" line is definitely not true.

I know. Viruses lack the main components and functions of a living thing.

It's called a "joke" or a "play on words."

Funk = Old Time Rock and Roll + Country + X musical genre.

Alright, before you ladies get into discussion, do not label any bands or insult other people or you'll make me hurt you.:nono:
I'd say... go for the guitar, since you didn't pick the bass. But you need to understand that playing guitar puts you into the one of the billion players rate.
Oh and did I mention the fact you'll need to learn all those pesky songs friends grin about? Well, it's up to you mate.
Cheers.
//If I hear anything against ANY band ever again, consider yourself mudkipfied, and trust me, you -don't- wanna lurve the Mudkiepz.
