Eh, I was talking to the guy who I think killed you. He had triple razors and a pulse, and is one of the best pilots on this server.

:\

Aww pssh !
The orca is in no way overbalanced... me and a friend of mine hunted down three orcas in omega 15 the other day, and we were both in titans !

Orins right, it all boils down to skill, mostly.

The Facts

El Lunchbox

The Corsair Gunboat has a bigger hold size, more regens, 30k more armour, more power, faster power regeneration and 8 turrets.

The "Miami Vice" Speedboat

The Orca has better max angular speed and angular distance.

I thank you.

Mjolnir Wrote:FLstat displays only 1 out of about 9 indicators that are important for ship "agility" in game.

Most notably it uses only up/down turning and nothing more.

This is most misleading for new Battleships which were changed to turn faster in the "flatter" direction.

So using Flstat BHG BS indeed turns at 0.14 (rad/s) up/down and seems like the slowest BS ever, yet it also turns at 0.4 left/right which is as fast as BHG BC and faster than some cruisers.

Generally I'd recommend you test the ship first before checking any numbers, as it's very easy to let yourself influence by them.

Blodo Wrote:Ok, so apart from group fight testing, 1v1 testing takes precendence. A couple of methods to remember to test before you jump to conclusions:

* Test a match-up three times in a row, always. Then switch ships with your partner and test it another three times. Always use RP loadouts. If a result is uncertain, try a different partner.
* Test a ship in a "chase fight" to see how hard it is to hit when dodging around. In a chase fight the ship in question should simply dodge while the other tries to hit it.
* Compare ship sizes to each other by positioning next to each other and taking screenshots. If you think a particular ship is too small, get a different ship, position it next to the other one and take a screenshot, then post on forums.

Try to keep to these guidelines as best as possible. Once you are done testing, post a thread on the forums with the results, mentioning the participants, results and possible fixes specifically.

In other words, don't post here just because you lost a fight an hour ago. Test things properly, then talk.

Another Nerf thread? What is it with all these requests to nerf things lately? Would you be happy if every ship shared the same stats and hit box and Discovery became nothing but a tastless bucket of gruel?
Remember that Freelancer is -almost- and entirely skill based game. With the exception of shields that have a regeneration rate superior to what a single ship can deal out in dps, anything is possible in Freelancer. It all comes down to you and how you guide your ship in combat.
The mentality that "if it can beat me it must be overpowered" needs to stop.

Orca is all about forward gun... you hit with that you win... you don't hit, you loose.

Makes for obvious anti-orca tactics as well.

Such as staying on its tail.

Orca BH GB - McNeo - 04-27-2009

No offense Cosmos, but Im much more afraid when I see a BHG GS than a BHG GB even now. The Orca is, like most other largeish gunboats, easy to nail with SN's, mini's, battlerazors and so on. Try hitting a good GS pilot with those and you'll really need to plan your attack well.

And not even the GS needs a nerf, since its already very vulnerable to other gunboats and above now.

So I don't see your point at all.

Listen up please, Cosmos asked why that thing had uber agility and an awesome amount of firepower. So comments like what Hribek said are unwelcome so shove of freak.

Now i was there and Cosmos is a good gunboat pilot, but that ship could stay behind the sair GB all the time if it wanted to.

Cosmos Loadout:
2 Pulse
1 B razor
The rest Corsair turrets

BHG Orca Setup:
1 Foward gun
The rest BHG Turrets.

I saw when cosmos made a pass that the pulses just missed the orca nearly everytimeeither the PVP Targeting system is a lil weird in it, Or that ship is a mean killing machine.

Orca BH GB - Robert.Fitzgerald - 04-27-2009

Are you really sure that Cosmos is a good gunboat pilot? In fact, all of his balance threads have involved him dying to superior players and complaining about them. It seems that the issue is not with the ships, but with the player. That's not a problem - Freelancer is skill-based, ships are only secondary to overall effectiveness.

The corsair gunboat is a slow heavy gunboat. The Orca is smaller and hence more agile. Not to mention, the Orca pilot may have used turning techniques to turn around faster and get behind him.

Slow weapons don't tend to hit dodging targets. Gunboats can often dodge slower projectiles simply by thrustering or reverse thrustering.
