There's potentially up to a couple of minutes delay on it, but yes. I'm mostly just resurrecting old functionality we haven't used for a while - forum UI showing event status has definitely been done before.

PSA: I've discovered that you should sell your entire hold all at once. I sold 1 unit to see how the event is handling the bonus and it only gave me a bonus for only that 1 unit. I sold off the rest of my hold right after and since it considered the "mission" to be complete after i sold that 1 unit i did not get a bonus for the rest.
So just be warned. I'm sure the rest of you are grizzled veterans at these sorts of things at this point and already knew that this could happen. I'm just new'ish and had to experiment

destination is impossible to police without a capital ship and capital ships are impossible to intercept with without just camping allentown with a battleship like a prick
and lawfuls seem entirely uninterested in the event
just a free money event for smugglers that im going to do instead of trying to stop people with garbage CDs and uber-nerfed bombers changed my mind, definitely just going to camp it in a battleship
poor choice in destination for such an immense payout. zero risk maximum reward

I've actually only ever seen the opposite of Navy and Police locking down everywhere in a huge force, so you have no chance at getting through. Probably depends on the hour you play.
