However, you are dead against another bomber or fighter. A gunboat doesnt have a prayer - Stoat - 05-13-2009 As has been said, it's all about pilot skill and loadout. Stick a GB missile on your boat, along with a pulse cannon and a load of stanard turrets, and watch that bomber go boom, as long as you know how to fly the gunboat. If you load up on pulse cannons and razors, you become pretty hopeless against a good bomber pilot, but extremely effective against other GBs. Doesn't mean you can't kill a good bomber pilot, but you need skill in aiming those razors. A gunboat doesnt have a prayer - Zapp - 05-13-2009 I ripped a bomber to shreds yesterday in my gunboat... thing never broke my shields. So I have to disagree with this thread. Gunboats are nice, you just gotta realize that the normal turrets are real sucky, so it's best to load up on other kinds. A gunboat doesnt have a prayer - Jinx - 05-13-2009 when both pilots have a lower skill - the gunship wins when both pilots have average skills - its a 50 / 50 when both pilots are aces, the bomber wins reasons for that: lower skills - the weaponstats for velocity are very important and the sustained "spray and pray". a bomber vs. a small gunship at low skill will miss a lot of its high-damage shots, not cause the gunship is dodging, but cause its simply moving and a low skill pilot needs to get used to quick-weapon-changes to adjust their targetting. average skills means that both are dodging - but the powers of the smaller and more agile ship grow un-proportionally to the skill increase. - a dodging bomber is harder to hit than a dodging gunboat while the damage both can do to each other is more or less similar. an ace bomber will be able to snipe the gunship from a distance where the gunship cannot really respond. - the dodging of the bomber makes it almost invulnerable and it can utterly dictate the combat due to its much greater agility and speed. edit: keep in mind that this does NOT mean that an ace bomber is better than an ace gunship! - a gunship performs more tasks than simply killing bombers - it can also support in larger battles and do tasks bombers aren t really suited for. - a gunship is invulnerable to a light fighter for example, no matter of the LF skill. - a bomber is not. A gunboat doesnt have a prayer - Muleo - 05-13-2009 With normal or solaris turrets, a gunboat can take on 2~3 bombers with relative ease. To OP: Don't blame the game or the stats, and take a look at yourself first. A gunboat doesnt have a prayer - zeinstruktor - 05-13-2009 Hah! Inferno on a bomber is the number 1 way to rape fighters and bombers. A gunboat doesnt have a prayer - carlabrams - 05-13-2009 This one almost seems like it needs to go to flood. But yeah - a lot of it is the skill of the pilot, and WHICH bomber you're going up against. Quite frankly, a sinlge bomber - with the exception of the Barghest - going up against either of my Orcas is probably going to lose. (Different loadouts on each, due to different owners / characters.) That, and I've been flying an Orca since 4.84, so I know the tricks of that ship. |
