Ship modellers! - Seth Karlo - 05-14-2009

I know about the stupidly huge amount of polygons guys, I know.

Also, Jinx is doing it for me now:):ylove:

Meh, here's some insperation anyway:

they are so ugly...
especially the second one...

Ship modellers! - Seth Karlo - 05-15-2009

No kidding. I am SO glad Jinx is making me one... He already sent me a concept... it was like Sex in model form.

Ship modellers! - jammi - 05-15-2009

Heh, no kidding. You can see that it was from the German fleet though - it bears a striking resembelance to the Rhienland BS.

Some of the Coalition stuff is amazing though, specificly the Kurgen. The Starlancer bombers are great as well. I really wish Disco used that sort of bomber...

Ship modellers! - Xing - 05-15-2009

now you mention it, there does seem to be some inspiration between rheinland and these...

Ship modellers! - Jinx - 05-15-2009

since Seth Karlo asked me to come up with something - i this is a concept of a - well... at least cruiser sized vessel. - i seached for the original starlancer ships, too - but found them all to be too oblong, too low on detail and overall - pretty boring ( except the kusari warship, which looks a bit like a poor mans battlestar )

so that is what i got atm. - seth karlo said he liked something along the lines of the old outcast dreadnought - this is a more elegant, sleeker design with a huge reactor chamber - it might look a bit "too elegant" for a rather conservative and functional freelancer world though.

edit: that fixed turret at the front is optional - i was experimenting with modelled turrets or gunmounts.

now .... the bad news is - this kind of concept just won t do for anything larger than a battlecruiser - and even a battlecruiser might be a bit too much. - the design is just too sleek, too small for something larger. in my opinion, ... a cruisersized ship at most - a large cruiser ( length ) but rather narrow. - but it doesn t really look like an alliance warship. - it d be strange if the alliance had come up with a ship like that - 1000 years ago, which looks like it comes from the future.

texturing that one will be a pain. - there s almost no straight face on it. its all somewhat round but not round enough. - i got a nice "organic" texture - but that would turn it into some kind of organic ship - it would fit well, but not into freelancer haha.

The only German ship in that list of ships is the first one and the fourth, #2 and 3 are American, #5 is most probably British, 6 is either British or American and the last one is Japaneses.

Ship modellers! - jammi - 05-15-2009

Yeah, I know, but the Rhienland BS does look like the second one. And the 6th ship is British... I was annoyed when it got blown up by the super-weapon platform.

Also, the ship Jinx made looks too elegant (Disco FL style) to be anything that got sent through from Starlancer Sol... Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but it doesn't suit the time period.

Ship modellers! - Jinx - 05-21-2009

another concept - that time less sophisticated - maybe that looks a bit more like it could come from some aeons old design from the alliance....

idea about the shape is still the same - long neck, massive tower in the rear. [ and yes - i have been watching stargate lately - but i hope the design is not too close to those warships - but ..... the stargate ships are blocky enough to be alliance ships:P]
