In Naples, the Cosa Nostra controls trash collection. THAT is its chosen primary legitimate front.
The Junkers are almost explicitly Mafiosi.

As I have said before, they're mysterious. And my researched has led me to one conclusion about the Junkers. If you take all the pieces of information you have about the Junkers, and put them together, you end up with Junkers. If you take a step back from this mural, though...It's like those big pictures made up of little pictures.

And that's what's fun about them--you can play a mysterious "piece" of their whole picture (which some still to this day don't understand).

btw, add me to the skype chat on junkers..

I've got some RP in line that actually expands on the whole 'trashman' bit. Maybe one day I'll actually commit it to a format that's not in my head so people can read it.

The gist of it is that you can learn a lot from people just by looking at their garbage. The Junkers deal in information as much as they deal in goods. Plus, if let's say a Junker stumbles a upon a prototype ship, ship system or weapon designed by Samura damaged and abandoned in a field. He or she reverse-engineers it and manages to get a halfway accurate schematic out of it... what's that worth to Kishiro?

(NOTE: In this theoretical situation, Kishiro would be operating through a plausible-deniability puppet agent. Also, who here has guessed yet that I'm a huge Shadowrun nerd?)

For a better example already in game: take Bornholm. Something bad happened there. There's a few utterly destroyed stations, and a transport convoy that didn't quite get away in time. One, what exactly went down there? Two, what can be gathered from sifting through the wreckage?

There's a reason the Junkers pay so much for the salvage there. Also, the Junkers' interest in such an endeavor doesn't stem from possible technology, as the wreck is ancient. So, what's in it for them? Who would be paying them to investigate Omega-15, and why?

There's an epic story right there that needs to be written.

There could be an epic story there. Lots of potential intrigue!

Of course, the best way to cover that is to get a bunch of people who just like salvaging things. You can be all out alone, just you and your scrap metal. A great way to hide things is under people who are really about the junk, too!

Yes and yes. You need to tell me these things in private, man. You know how I like to pass Congress members' ideas off as my own so I seem that much smarter.

alright whats up i'm here in this thread writing a post

first off, i totally agree

secondly, this puts the onus on junkers. we have to work for our place. Flying between malta and texas all day doesn't help anyone except ourselves. Everyone hates us, but we exist and are wealthy because everyone needs us. So in order to strike up this balance, and take on our role of not being trusted by anybody, we need to work on being useful to everyone too, or it will majorly backfire on the faction.

Perfect example of how to do this would be what I've been doing recently: acting as a fence for pirates engaging in cargo piracy. The pirate can blow up people all day without upsetting anything more than he already has, and the junker can land on the lawful bases where the cargo sells for a good price - "it fell off the back of a lorry". It's a perfect system. The pirate doesn't like that he has to bring in some untrustworthy junker to fence all his goods, but he knows it's the only way he's going to make any decent money.

We can act like untrustworthy bastards, but we also have to make ourselves useful to everyone or it's not really going to work out for us.

Another example: I charged a Hacker Spyglass an arm and a leg for my Nanobots when he was in a battle against the LN

HAI BEN

Yeah, the Malta-Texas run wins us no friends, especially as we <strike>poorly</strike> nail other smugglers doing the same thing. It is indeed all about striking the balance; too far toward throwing one's weight around and a war breaks out. But too far toward being accomodating, and some random fools turn you into a target of opportunity as the faction gets perceived as 'only typing angry letters' in the forum.

I've had a lot of incidents at Yanagi where Junkers would simply be ignored and/or mowed down because of perceived weakness on behalf of certain unlawfuls.

Sirius is full of partnerships of grudging convenience like that. Look at House Police/Corporations and BHG relations; in vanilla, both of the former can barely tolerate the latter's unscrupulous tactics, boorish behavior and bad hygiene.

This is actually more or less the Junker RP that everyone agrees is how the faction should be represented. Pirates squeeze transports, we bring the goods where they sell, everyone leaves happy.

Everyone is encouraged to do so. Find a nice bored pirate and give him the idea, before he gets it in his head to go hunt Navy in NY because there's nothing else to do. These interactions also lessen the amount of incidents after which I have angry Outcasts sending me "Now I pirate all Congress I see" type messages, because we are helping them (and us) rather than farting around acting all self-serving and stuff.

Sometimes, co-running the faction (by which I mean Hawk does all the day-to-day stuff and I just type grandiose unattainable decrees which I forget about 2 minutes later) is an enormous headache. Other times, Congress guys like the ones weighing in here humble me with their brilliant insight and loyalty.

This whole thread is evidence of why I haven't told Tink to take his 'gift' and stick it in his own private Puerto Rican Rift yet.:P

Junkers and You - JunkerTown - 09-26-2009

Time to revive this old post because its the most relevant to what is going on again. Too many indy smugglers are running the lanes with contraband. These smugglers also sell to the highest bidder which I am sorry to report isn't always Junker bases. First these indy smugglers are interfering with a trade we Junkers capitalize on. If they are not doing business at Junker bases they are not welcome to trade in Liberty. We are the ones that clean up this trash and any trash that shows up here is picked up by us. Be warned if your a smuggler you'd better know us Junkers and realize were the ones you bring your junk too.
