What, above gunboat DPS not good enough for you?

Transport ships right now are fine as is, it can take down fighters with ease, and a bomber here and there, not to mention it also has counter measures. It's well enough defended, it doesn't need more firepower, you cant just fly around in a ship that could solo gunboats(even though right now, even one will leave a gunboat hurting)....

I'm all for more powerful liner turrets, among other things. Quite frankly, Liners are underpowered - I fly one (the SMALLER one, mind), and it's got great armor, don't get me wrong, but its supposed invulnerability is a joke - EVERYTHING hits it, regardless of how much you try and strafe and maintain distance. Oh, and they're so dang big that the guns won't hit bombers, and a Gunboat? Oh, sure. They'll shred right through it (those razors hurt like hell) Liner prices got spiked, and then they got nerfed. I'd like to see a higher agility and, since we're on the topic of better guns, I WOULD like to see better liner turrets. Just for good measure. You shouldn't be able to pirate a liner easily - it should take pairs of Gunboats and TEAMS of bombers to bring them down. After all, we haul the one cargo in Sirius that you can't put a price on (and we do so for a poor profit).

Liners are difficult to take down in house space (trade lanes, thrust to nearby bases, etc). If they get more defensive capabilities, then they better stay still like the real ones.

If only Liners earned money by sitting with passengers at tourist hot spots, making money per short time interval when they remain in the hot spot area. That means liners would resemble their vanilla counterparts, while being able to gain increased defensive capabilities (as they'll be forced to be stationary in a potentially dangerous area). Someone else thought up an idea like this, so thanks for giving the original idea.

Ahhhh, if only that were true, Eppy.

I've no problem with them getting stronger, but make sure that the only thing they carry is human cargo. No more liners with cardi/gold/niob/diamonds etc etc etc etc, except in <strike>much</strike> sorry, MUCH smaller quantities.

I, for one, am sick of seeing them hauling every commodity under the sun, OTHER than the one they are supposedly designed to carry.

In increase in power should be matched by a decrease in hold size. If a player wishes to sacrifice profits for protection then they should have that choice.

As for powering up Transport turrets - question is how much? If transport turrets are beefed up will they be used more for actual piracy?

And is that that a good thing if they are - personally I think it is. I would much prefer pirates to use transports to pirate - and gunboats to be left as purely military vehicles just like other capital ships.

So how much 'beefing' can a Transport handle? What if - and this is purely speculation in terms of balance - transports were able to use Gunboat weapons, but kept their normal powercore and shields?

Have a think about the stats and such. What is the Transport powercore like compared to a gunboat powercore? WOuld it preclude the use of too many razors, pulses, or missile turrets?

Some people might say 'omg Gunboats will get pwned!' - but then arent gunboats meant to be anti-fighter ships? Might we then see a reduction in Gunboat spam?

If there is one class of ships that (in my opinion) SHOULD be spammed - it is the Freighters/Transports/Liners. They should be the 'meat and potatoes' of both the lawful and unlawful economies.

It is quite true.

Liners are crap ships for making money. If the other liner pilots are managing somehow, with human cargo I want to know how.

I, personally, haven't seen a non-OSC liner in a month (except mine), so I really don't think the concerns about carrying everything else under the sun are warranted - people are reverting back to 5K transports now that Zoner Guard tags are easy as sin to get. If you can come up with a method for my ship to make a large chunk of change carrying nothing but human cargo, please do.

Also, Liners should be mandatorily stronger. They raised the price, then nerfed them again...

EDIT:

...we don't make any money to begin with, my friend...the protection we get right now for the profits we make is pathetic. I have, for the first time since I sold my Advanced Train when the new Interspace ID was issued, been tempted to buy it back. Which would necessitate a Zoner Guard tag and some mandatory lulz.

Good ideas there but I must say that some non-human cargo should be added into a liner. Like - Luxury Food - . Afterall is a Luxury Liner and needs Luxury Food.

Transport Turrets, Gunboat Turrets and... Liner Turrets - 11of10 - 07-08-2009

As far as I know, either OSC ID or Luxury Liner infocard allready states that nothing except live humans and a small amount of goods can be taken and transported aboard the Liner. That would settle the problem with gold-running Liners.

Also, I'm all for reducing the damage output of transport guns in favour of greater projectile speed. You just can't hit anything except an unlucky bomber or gunboat from Container Transports.

I tried to be a mennace to pirates in my CTs.. figured there is no point to it, as you cannot hit anything, and gunboat can just shieldrun as it has much better manouverability than transports.

Switched to GMG Kujira Whale.

I have one mighty mining turret now, and am proud of it!:)

And have you realised they have 11 of them?

Yes, 11!

Now that new transport ships with only 1 - 3 turrets were added to the game, I can't support this idea.

Sorry, but Liners are already strong enough, enough.

Maybe the turrets would cost 1.5 million.
Take up a hunk of power.
550 Hull, 275 Shield. 1400 Speed. 3.3 Refire.
Something along those lines.

Check out those new implemented 'Small Transport Turrets' and the respective specs on them.
Good choice they are.

As for Transports and their Turrets.... meh.
Try faction turrets...

6 forward firing Hornviper 4 Turrets on a Behemoth can really be a pain for a Fighter/Bomber pilot.
