I have a couple of big battlehips, but they're parked, unused.

IMO, cruisers are fun, but battleships are just terrible as far as fun factor goes.

I'm tempted to get a Bunter Destroyer myself.. I'm just not sure I'll get much funsies out of it compared to say, a Hammerhead or a Manta.

Any pointers for a future capital ship owner? Also why are battleships boring? I have read the thread about capital ships by Athenian (it was you, right?).

Yes.

I immensely enjoy both the RP and the PvP aspects of my cap ships. I don't have a battleship yet, but I have two cruisers and a destroyer. The nice thing is - I can RP in them without worrying too much about npc's. So if I'm typing something in a great RP conversation with someone, and 4 npc corsair fighters come along and start shooting at me - then there's no issue. I can continue the conversation, and just ignore the fleas, because they can't hurt me. Now have that happen in a fighter - you've got to spend the time fighting, and while I don't have the ANZLag factor, it can take me quite a while to finish up with several npc's.

i have a bunch of shared heimdalls, i like to pirate people in them?

Flown the LWB flagship cruiser a bit, i am disgustingly terrible.

I'm more effective in a transport than a gunship. Figure that out.

Back in 4.84 when transport and gunboat shields were actually comparable I was able to take a PTrans and stomp out badly piloted gunboats with frightening regularity. I haven't had the chance lately but I imagine it's a lot harder.

Can I lobby for a blurrier line between "defended" transports and the gunboat class?

As for capitals, I've tried them and I can't RP a cap worth a damn.

I love my destroyer. The RP is great - plus, with my skills, I never have to make a return trip! Can anyone say bomber magnet? I get taken down so quickly that my game time is limited.

Which is a good thing, because I don't like wasting a ton of time on this game.
RP, and then I die in the first few moments of combat in ways that bend the mind.
I get the good RP from Freelancer, and then I die before the laborious PvP really starts since my ship is such a target.

But yes.
I love my dessie through and through.

In your ships, do you actually have fun in them? You know without resorting to PvP'ing?

Yes ... I totally enjoy gunboats. Anything larger is too clumsy to fly. If I need something huge it's usually gonna be something to move cargo with.

I also enjoy flying smaller vessels ... fighters and freighters. Freighters are quite good for role playing a research vessel. Yup ... I actually have a Researcher ID on one. Got no real need for bombers and such. Bombers in the hands of indies just means PVP is about to begin.

Gunboats are best for piracy due to the large number of huge-mega-trade-vessels out there. And to me its more realistic to have a gunboat than a bomber for this. For one ... the gunboat has a lot more cargo space to actually pirate the traders for cargo with. Plus ... bombers are short ranged vessels that would need to stay close to base in order to resupply, refuel and such.

Yup, I have and occasionally do, have a really good time just floating around in the [LN]-LNS-Durango (Liberty Dread) and sending various folks out on patrols etc. It's a giggle. Feels all admiral-y. However, it's a rare thing for me that I do that, as I'd much rather get my hands dirty in a fighter.
