i like the look of the corsair ship, but i was thinking something that doesnt have a WHOLE lot of firepower, but instead has to get up close and personal. something that looks like it would ram other ships alot.
but then again, the corsair GB looks like it could handle that.
what tag would be appropriate to allow me to take it pretty much anywhere?

im sorry, but i think this idea is terrible. Your basing it so much on serenity you might as well make Freelancer: Firefly the mod.

the idea doesn't suck... develope it out and flesh this into a really nice background and characters and how they act and what not
taking inspiration from a TV show or another game is not something to be ashamed of really....I mean come on, we have the Razgriz Blackhole in the Outcast Guard system.... the Mobius squad that wanders around the Taus too
both of those are from Ace Combat and no one makes a big deal about that
as for the ship, the firepower can be adjusted all you like.... use the close range and weaker solaris guns...maybe the sluggish cerb cannons... either can affect your style by ALOT if you mount more of those than basic turrets
also, even with Freelancer IFF and Pirate ID (most freedom for unlawfuls) your equipment has to reflect your ZOI....Corsair ship best stick to the Omicrons, Omegas, Bretonia and sometimes Rheinland

and even the game developers have included ships in the mod that come from Star wars, Battlestar gallactica, and firefly.

Also note that most of these imports have been removed and replaced with more FLish models. (I think firefly is the only exception?)
However, on the basis of the RP you wish to begin. I think it has merit, however you will need to do some work in fleshing it out. Add some FL references (like the names of nebulas, even the sirius sector itself)
Maybe describe some characters, like they are ex corsairs, or ex IMG who went exploring, etc... You'll also need to explain how they came across their ships. (was it their original? did they steal them from crews they killed? etc)
Let your own RP skill shine through. The more you can make this your own, the better. There are alot of benefits to making it your own RP. For one the respect, I feel more people will go with it if it is yours mostly, then if it is purely based off firefly. Secondly, if you do an exceptional job, you may in the future qualify for a terrorist license, and even might end up with a modder designing a custom ship for you, for the next version (like Monstar)
Put some work into it, and you will reap the rewards. Good Luck!

i think the viper is still around. a modified version anyways, of the viper from Battlestar.
also, the GMG whale still looks like the Transport ships from the original star wars. you can see them evacuating the planet in Empire Strikes Back and in the fleet in Return of The Jedi.
there used to be an ARwing from starfox too. what happened to that?

Well it depends on who you are... who your chars are. If they are ex IMG, it would make more sense for them to have a IMG ship.
If they are zoner, a zoner ship... corsair, the corsair ship.
I would go even to say the Junker Salvager would look like a neat ship for your purposes.
