Fighter/Bomber missile turrets - Colonel.Tigh - 08-06-2009 Yeah, something for these useless backfireing turrets to do, no hold wait, the wrath has no backfireing turret. Ok its cool, but ships with a forward fireing turret would have an imense advantage, they could use this a a kind of super i-pwn-u weapon. Missles with both ammo and energy (like the topedos) maybe, its not mutch of a difference if the cannonbal is fired from a normal missle or a turret missle. Could be ok, but is not nessesary woth the effort. Fighter/Bomber missile turrets - tansytansey - 08-06-2009 I don't think it's needed, but I think it's an interesting idea. However, my Falcata has two rear facing turrets. So every time you pass me I'm gonna swap weapon groups and hit ' so they fire backwards and hit you while you're turning around to face me. I just don't think it's practical to be honest, a fighters' primary strength is, and should be in my opinion frontal assault. Imagine the Gunship rear view trick, but with a ship 10x more manuverable, 3x smaller and doesn't need rear view to shoot you. Yeah, you get the picture. Fighter/Bomber missile turrets - Weedalot - 08-06-2009 when you fire a weapon(missile) backwards it takes time to accelerate and usually will miss before the target already away from hit zone. I do believe it can be something else that you can mound on forward turrets, and in rare cases it will hit a backwards shoot of a missile. its not tested but i think this is how it will work, i know shooting backwards from a GB (missiles) is not the best way to hit anything. edit: and yes if it does as you say about the "can shoot you without rear view" than i guess this will be out of the question.. if it makes it too powerful its not that fun.. but if its not its something we should consider. Fighter/Bomber missile turrets - Tovig - 09-01-2009 Could give an utility to those useless backward turret... I say yes. Fighter/Bomber missile turrets - Mickk - 09-03-2009 It sounds like a good idea to me. A new 'class' of weapon could be the result, something along the same line as a mini-razor, but much weaker. Check out the 'gundam missile' mod, it's close to what you are thinking about, but it mounts on a missile mount. One thing I'm not sure about is whether or not it uses energy to fire. Guided energy weapons..... Fighter/Bomber missile turrets - tansytansey - 09-03-2009 Remember that not all fighters have backwards only firing turrets. Ships like the Sabre, Werewolf, Hyena, and even some bombers like the Rhienland Snubnose have forward firing turrets. Missile turrets would make ships like these unbalanced versus ships with only rear firing turrets. Some ships, particularly Vanilla ones, like the Eagle, have -near- forward firing turrets, to the point where they can shoot forward while turning. This would also present them with an advantage over ships with strictly rear firing turrets. |
