Nomination for a new Mod - Tenacity - 08-19-2009 Some people cannot be saved, there are a few groups I could mention but this would turn into a TBF if I did. Simply put, right now too many people get away with breaking the rules, even after they've been told to change their ways. I can log onto the server and fly across sirius, and within an hour I can screen a dozen players for sanctionable offenses. Luckily for most of these players, I tell them to get their act straight and never file a report, but the second or third time around... then it gets on my nerves. In general there are groups of players, most of which have come here from other servers since the release of 4.85, who have been told again and again what they're doing wrong, and how to change it. Most of these players have been sanctioned several times over, and still they do not learn. It takes a bullet in the head to get a point across to them, and when you've tried to straighten them out that many times and failed, there's no course of action left but to ban them from the server, yet our current admins do not seem to have the initiative to do such a thing. The only time I've seen people banned indefinitely is from language offenses, all these stubborn idiots that keep breaking serverside rules just get to slide with a fine or warning here or there. Nomination for a new Mod - Fletcher - 08-19-2009 ' Wrote:Perhaps the problem is Cool Heads, ever think of that? Seems that in many cases our current admin/moderator team is too reserved in taking action against the scum of the server. Perhaps we would be better served by those who arent afraid to slap the idiots around.Look what happened to those who actually took things into their own hands, albeit in-game. There was public fury and outcry to de-admin those involved. This means the community to a degree is hypocritical. A cool head, and a reserved one may not be the optimal option, but is certainly means they keep themselves in check. Nomination for a new Mod - Rudo - 08-19-2009 The problem with slash-and-burn policies when it comes to server governing is that it sets a precedent. What you do to Corky the socially maladjusted 13-year-old who thankfully gets his aggressions out on pixellated spaceships rather than the neighborhood cats you will also have to do to the nice fellow who talks politely and can argue rings around you and has the time to do so. Look at Xoria trying to enact new rules and the screaming that ensued. Look what Xoria did soon after. Better to do too little and just shrug than burn everything and deal with the fallout. Nomination for a new Mod - frozen - 08-19-2009 blodo, rudo, tazuras would be my nominations for moderator stance, perhaps blodo for admin too, but i think he may be reluctant to be an admin. but this is pointless until the admins decide its a necessary step. Nomination for a new Mod - Blodo - 08-19-2009 Tenacity one thing that people need to learn about the rules, is that they are not in place to allow people to sanction other people. The rules are meant as guidelines towards good gameplay, as well as protection against people refusing to follow the example of such good, established gameplay that the rest of the server is already used to. The sanction system is merely a vessel for educating people who openly disrupt server gameplay, certainly not one for personal wrath and "roflpwn", nor one that is meant to oblige a person to report every single rule violation he finds. In principle it was meant to be used in only the most dire situation, where the person involved is obviously not going to change his ways without admin intervention. Should more people finally realise that, I imagine the amount of sanctions posted daily would reduce tenfold. Now how this has meaning to your post: cool heads would be preferred in order to objectively decide when a sanction is made out of genuine concern over server gameplay, or simply out of spite. We already had a hothead once (BULLDOGNK), and look where that got us? Rampant admin power abuse and favouritism. It was a sufficient lesson I would say. Nomination for a new Mod - atlantis2112 - 08-19-2009 I vote Jarek.:) But seriously... isn't this just going to turn into a popularity contest? I've seen it before on other forums. Nomination for a new Mod - Fletcher - 08-19-2009 ' Wrote:I vote Jarek.:)Popularity, and skill rarely go hand in hand on the Internet. Nomination for a new Mod - Rudo - 08-19-2009 I'd be the most haphazard admin on the planet. One minute easygoing and the next entirely too sadistic for anyone's good. This would go poorly. I've said it before that if someone violated rules in such a manner as to be beyond a slap on the wrist, I'd beam them to Omega-58. strip their thruster, shields and regens and place the entire credit worth of their account in credit cards in their cargo. Nomination for a new Mod - Patrician - 08-19-2009 IF we have a say in the matter, I would like to see the pool of candidates drawn primarily from the Angels. They already have their head in the right place; i.e. trying to help people selflessly. Nomination for a new Mod - Tenacity - 08-19-2009 Quote:Tenacity one thing that people need to learn about the rules, is that they are not in place to allow people to sanction other people. I fully realize this, right now I've got a folder with enough screenshots to get fifty or more people on the server sanctioned, and I probably wont ever post any of it, because most of them I talked to in-game about their situation. Still, seeing the same players a month later still breaking the rules and knowingly doing so... that frustrats me. It isnt often that I post a sanction report, I've only posted maybe a dozen in the 6 months, but I've had to post more in the past month than in the five before that. Things are going downhill with the influx of new players to the server - most of them dont even know about this forum, or about the rules at all. |
