Pointless piracy... - Mickk - 09-01-2009

I'm going to have a whinge here.

I don't really like pirates, I guess no-one does, but I can deal with them if they aren't too heavy handed with the demands for dollars.

I had a reasonable encounter with one in NY, in fact I went looking for him on purpose as i had a couple of Rouge Pilots on board and we ended up 'swapping', I got 2 Police Pilots in trade for the Rouges.

On the other end of the scale, I lost a full third of the profit on one leg of a trade run.... to a pirate transport.

I saw him, I ran, he tricked me and I handed over the dollars, eventually.

In the process, he swatted my sheilds away like they weren't there and trashed my hull.
While they had good reason to ( I was still moving, pirates don't like to talk and move at the same time ), I sort of wonder why a pirate transport should be able to throw that much firepower around.

I'm not looking for a nerf, but I don't think I would have had a chance against the transport if I had decided to fight.

For all you traders saying your ships are defenseless, or dont have enough firepower, ask yourself one question... are you flying a 5000 unit transport? If the answer is yes, then you have answered your question. The 5000 unit transports are sitting ducks, and they are supposed to be.... you give up defense for all that cargo space. I have three trade ships, 2 BW trans and a Big Dragon, I can handle most lone opponents, whether is be taking on a bomber or fighter, or getting away from a GB. I give up cargo space for defense, thats the trade off that I make. I also have 2 Raba's and a Ptrans that I use for cargo piracy, so I know it doesnt take a bomber or gb to take down a transport. Balance your risk and reward when picking a ship to trade in, I advise against the Super Transports.

Yeah... if you're flying a Train and they're doing this... well, that's entirely your fault. Try flying a Container Transport or one of the others that sacrifices cargo space for butt-kicking and see how pirates respond.

I fly a shire, THe 12 guns only give you a False sence of security, When a single bomber can dpwn you in short order.

Bretonian Shire Container Transport, 4,300 cargo, 12 turrets.

Yes, that's right - 12 turrets. The pirates aren't the only ones that can throw a lot of firepower around.

If you run around in a big rectangular box without any escorts, you get what you deserve. I got CD'd by a Nomad gunboat with two escorting fighters in this ship out in Kappa making a run out to Dabadoru. You're in a big box - you die. In the Shire - you attack, and you win. :P

Hey, Els - what guns are you using? I recommend Purple Goddesses - the rate of fire is VERY nice with them, and with any kind of decent armor, a bomber goes away rather quickly.

Seriously, if yo know what your doing, They die Fairly easily. I own one, And I pwn People flying them Fairly regulary with a pirate.

I had a single gmg bomber take down another shire and almost the one I was flying(when I still had a shire) but then a bunch of outcasts came and saved the day. Its good against about anything but a single bomber can utterly wipe the floor with them and thats all people seem to fly so fly whatever, your still a sitting duck if they have a bomber.

Why I prefer ships with cm and hard to reach engines...

i have fun taking out shires in my ptran.... and my barghest...

you know what i have the most trouble taking down in my roc?

pirate trains. i keep hitting the turrets with my supernova.

anyways, i cant comment on the situation discribed untill a few more facts are thrown out in the open. such as what you were hauling, and who was pirating you.
