Traders, opinions from a pirate - Elsdragon - 09-01-2009 Yeah, Um, I wouldnt put them In the cargo hold, Period. Dark matter shielding is Abolugtly neccesary, Less evryone Dies Traders, opinions from a pirate - Jimothy - 09-01-2009 ' Wrote:Yeah, Um, I wouldnt put them In the cargo hold, Period. That's just an excuse for "I don't want to limit my money-making with some RP junk" Pirating the food seems a VERY good point though, pirates go for the food because they're hungry... Just adds a little RP to the Trader. Traders, opinions from a pirate - Rocket.Mouse - 09-01-2009 Captain Spirit...... THAnK YOU! It's these kind of opinions that make things work, you didn't come right out and attack, you put in your two cents and disagreed with me yet I do not feel like I am arguing with a child! Thank you thank you thank you. Crew though, I would think they would need to be protected, doesn't mean that no one should see them at all when scanned. John, I am sorry that my opinion of you has just...well.... fell to a new low. You have started this as an attack and it saddens me that attitude like that cause people to get angry at a game that everyone should enjoy. I started this thread to peruse a liaison between pirates and traders, and to voice my own opinion. Some agree, some do not, yet you have to act like we're on the K-5 playground. So let me get your idea correct, I am to pretend to take your crews food now, and the OORP credits? When the developers put crew in I don't think they had the idea that people would trade space ship crew for the 200 credit differences across Sirius, I felt that they put them in there to assist role playing having a large ship and crew to work it. I must be wrong. and then you end with "I'm selling my corsairs and getting outcast ones."--those are the statements that I lose respect for. Do it, join the outcasts, they have some very respectable player factions you could go for, just lose the attitude before you join so you don't tarnish the greatness that they have achieved. When I see a huge battleship without crew, are they all hiding? When it blows up do they all die? I prefer to see large ships with a Crew, you will find I try my best to have at least one Crew in my bombers/fighters, and at least 4+ in anything larger, that is my choice, but when I get blown up I at least can say eject, and then complain about the cargo hold of my enemies as they tractor me in. Hopefully it adds a little smile to those who take me down. This was my opinion, as in, it is very subject to be wrong, I love to battle of the minds when such people like the Captain Spirit add alot of their own without trying to insult, I value that. There is no "trader feedback thread" that is a good thing too, since very few traders will read t, and the fact it would blow up quickly. I try to voice opinion in assistance to aide the minds of angry people that complain about corsair pirates. Anyone remember the "2miloRdai" days? wasn't that long ago, remember how it made us all feel? I stated that a Crew with all the amenities that they need would be nice. and since corsairs are hungry and even if you want to say your crew is hiding where scans cannot see, then carry some food and when a corsair asks you to stop, offer it to them in lue of payment. It has worked for me many of times. Dark matter shielding, I would hope the whole ship would have some type of shielding; organs, nuclear devices, gaian wildlife, foods, etc. would all be in need of this... so....yah, let's add that to our pipes. Traders, opinions from a pirate - Jimothy - 09-01-2009 Well thanks for the thanks:) Just to note, a crew on Battlseships, Cruisers and Gunboats I personally would do without query, just hadn't thought about it for Transports, but Co-pilots for some of the larger fighters and bombers are good ideas as well. And as I said, the dark-matter shielding is just an excuse not to loose power-trader space for RP reasons. Traders, opinions from a pirate - BaconSoda - 09-01-2009 ' Wrote:1. Do they have crew? Does your ship have a single life-form on it? Who manages the helm, who is the cargo master? I find this rather dubious, myself. Spaceship Crew are in the mod for some reason, and they certainly aren't there to be trades as commodities, so I suppose it'd for Roleplay, isn't it? I like to keep some in there, just because it adds some realism for me. If I explode in a fighter, my character has exploded, that is something I can live with. If I explode in something bigger than a Bomber, I lose my crew. Just like in a Stategy Game, I do whatever I can to defend the lives of my "Units". Spaceship Crew is one of those "Units." ' Wrote:2. So some crew, no food? This I do not agree with. We are not traveling through deep space, here. Most traders go along Trade Lanes. There is very little chance that I will get lost while following a Trade Lane. I will never be so incapacitated that I can't stop at a base, which, at the worst, will be unfriendly to me, but will serve me food if I agree to pay for it. Unless you're a Zoner going through deep space to Omicron Delta or something, and even if you're doing this, I still don't think a trader would be too worried about getting lost and needing food. Trade Routes might take an entire day, but, they don't take weeks upon weeks of trade lane travel. ' Wrote:3. Most profitable cargo wins eh? You'd be surprised. Some people actually do Roleplay. Try assuming they are in Roleplay until they show otherwise. It'll help you a lot. And on that note, yes, people, there are other routes you can run, routes that are good for corporations. They really aren't bad. I might run things like Terraforming Gases and Copper, but I do know of good unusual routes when I actually do need to make money. ' Wrote:4. Complaints in space, "why don't you guys go and trade to make your money?" Let me tell you something: it is the summer. A lot of people who don't really have a correct perspective about life are currently on server. Give it a little bit, then we'll notice an increase in the lightheartedness of the game. At least, this is my hope. ' Wrote:5. Faction alignment, ID...etc. This is something I agree with, if I read it right. Though corporations do not have it easy, really, read up on what a corporation does and Roleplay that, people. It really IS much more fun than generic trading. I have never had a generic trader, and I have always had more fun than the next guy while trading. It's really wonderful, eye opening RP experience. Traders, opinions from a pirate - Unseelie - 09-01-2009 Do you have corsairs and food aboard your ship? You're completely welcome to penalize me for having 'poor' rp for not having anything but a profitable cargo in my hold. That and armour, if you do. If you don't, then that's hypocricy of the highest order. Furthermore: I, as the leader of a tradefaction, and a player who primarily flies transports...don't see this same expectation being enforced on fighters, why should we wear rp on our chests, so to speak, rather than being good RPers? In my oppinion, a good rp is not dictated, or even influenced, by what someone's hauling around. Whether they've 'crew' or any other useless (that's right, completely pointless, worthless, waste of .02 ping) commodity. Commodities are about the economy. RP is about fun. Having crew in my hold has -never- added to my fun, but roleplaying in chat has. Just as I wouldn't wear a sword, armour, or a cape to a pen and paper match, I wouldn't decide someone would be a poor rper for not wearing one....I might, though, think those who cannot imagine the character in full, who demands I wear a cape or an eyepatch, to be somewhat...unimaginative, at the least. Traders, opinions from a pirate - Thexare - 09-01-2009 My responses, as a relative newbie to piracy, as well as an ex-trader... ' Wrote:1. Do they have crew? Does your ship have a single life-form on it? Who manages the helm, who is the cargo master?Would you stick your crew in a metal box? Because that's about what the cargo hold amounts to, especially on Trains. Use the crew commodity if you want, but don't act like we have to in order to have crew in-RP. Additionally, to Baconsoda... Quote:If I explode in a fighter, my character has exploded, that is something I can live with. If I explode in something bigger than a Bomber, I lose my crew. Just like in a Stategy Game, I do whatever I can to defend the lives of my "Units". Spaceship Crew is one of those "Units."I don't much like the thought of losing my crew either, but for a different reason - they're not faceless units in an RTS to me, everyone on the Cerulean had their own backstory and personality. Just like any of my other characters. And damn it, I'm not going to have that screwed up by some powergaming jackass shooting the "Spaceship Crew" commodity that will pop out of my ship if it blows up. (actually, in an RTS, I'm more than willing to throw away entire squads as needed, heh) Quote:2. So some crew, no food? Not only food, pirates can be bribed with other things too. A few bars of gold or crates of diamonds could buy some of us off, they're probably much easier to fence than things like optronics and boxes of beryllium. Weapons are always useful, too, whether Light Arms or Black Market Munitions. Quote:4. Complaints in space, "why don't you guys go and trade to make your money?"Emphasizing this. Sure, if I save up enough, I might set up a new fighter or help someone else start, but I'm not doing it for money. I'm doing it because I like being a thieving bastard. Most of the money's gonna end up going to ammo (Screamers aren't cheap) and repairs anyway. Quote:5. Faction alignment, ID...etc.This is one of the perks of being a Buccaneer: we don't use Freeports. I've yet to catch any Zoners, though, so I haven't seen what excuse they'd try after that... Traders, opinions from a pirate - Jimothy - 09-01-2009 Actually, the point about food's a good one, trader's wouldn't carry much, perhaps just a mini-bar and a lunch box. Although at the same time, think of you're fridge at home. Do you keep enough in there for about a week? Or do you think that, 'oh, ill just go to the shops when I need it, even if they aren't friendly, they'd give me some if I paid.' I'm sticking with 2 crew for a Train (Or Large/ADV Train, same cabin size) now, and food stocks depending on the trip size. That covers myself as the main pilot, a stock controller type guy, and a co-pilot. Traders, opinions from a pirate - cobraSting - 09-01-2009 You bring up a good point. No matter how oorp powertrading can be, I always try to RP or act polite when I get stopped. Traders, opinions from a pirate - binTowers - 09-01-2009 I do not fully understand why people bother to trade. Anything bigger than bomber is useless, right? Those bigger ships are here just to make missguided people trade, people think they will get something special, while in reality they get crap. Therefore we can classify all traders in 2 categories: 1) Not very bright ones, who do not understand, that there is no point to trade apart from process itself; 2) Those who actually enjoy this process and like to chat (RP) with people they meet. See? When you deal with a trader, you either deal with a fool or a weirdo. As a result only something strange or stupid is going to happen if you poke a trader. This is why expecting traders to act in some way which you think is the correct way is naive. |
