-=[]CALLING ALL AUSSIES[]=- - Linkus - 09-03-2009 Be descendants in Bretonia. -=[]CALLING ALL AUSSIES[]=- - Dunny - 09-03-2009 Working from a news bulletin I read in the beta version of this mod: The Aussie sleeper ship was completely destroyed after having been fully loaded. No survivors, at all. I was going to have the Aussie descendants in the Bretonnia prior to this, but if the Aussies had thier own sleeper why use the poms? I assume our population wouldn't be so extensive it'd need two sleeper ships to fill. Therefore, another way'd be required to ensure that some Aussies survive. Falling back on Australia's proud military history, and noting that indeed it seems during the intro movie that a fair few other ships were helping the Sleeper Ships escape, it makes sense that a few of those ships forming a rearguard would be Australian, correct? After all, Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice are the four ANZAC values. Now, since it is widely known that Australia has one of the best armed forces in the world today (Our SASR is known as the best special forces in existence, and Aussie infantry get amongst the best training...look at our casualty rates in all recent wars for proof), it makes sense that our elements serving as rearguard would do quite well. In fact, it is entirely possible that a single large ship - maybe a battleship or carrier - might well manage to get through the Coalition blockade themselves. Imagine your sleeper ship has been destroyed, and you've bought time for the rest of your comrades to escape...now, you have a chance to escape yourself, to become a part of this bright new world. Would you do it? Hells yes! I know I would. So, say a single carrier breaks though. It recalls all fighters, puts everyone on ice and fires up its engines to full burn...and it'd have some form of FTL flight, because Carriers are expected to be able to operate at some range. Then we come to the Bretonnia. It arrived last in the Sirius System...why? Engine troubles. One of its engines were damaged, and it literally limped along. Makes sense, then, that this one Carrier might just catch up to it, yes? Maybe get to Sirius at the same time as, or just after, the B. Yes, thier cultures would slowly assimilate, but I know Aussies. We wouldn't forget our heritage or our proud history - especially if every single one of us is descended from warriors. And of course this pride would probably alienate the Bretonnian majority...and what do you get when a minority is alienated from a majority? Discrimination, in one form or another. I know I wouldn't like that. Now, imagine that the people that've been discriminating against you are weak. They're losing a war and their army is distracted. You're a race of soldiers, every one of you is descended from someone who'd chosen to give thier life fighting so that others could escape. Then some bright spark comes up with the idea of, well "Hey. Techincally, we HAVE a sleeper ship. That carrier. If we have a national identity, a sleeper ship and the will to be free, why not form our own House? Our own nation, where we can be ourselves without fear of those bloody Poms telling us we're just convicts and second-class citizens? Theres a whole bunch of systems out there, waiting for us. We just gotta take ?m." Next thing you know, you've got a political movement on your hands. Its not like a sleeper ship appears out of the blue, or that we have tonnes of Aussies out of nowhere. It's that the descendants of a race thought long gone are slowly starting to gather under a single banner. A flag long thought burned. I am putting out a call to all of those in Sirius of Australian descent: There's a place out there. A Shiny New Australia in this world we gave up our national identity to make. Let's grab onto it with both hands and hang on until it becomes ours. Anyone with me? -=[]CALLING ALL AUSSIES[]=- - reavengitair - 09-03-2009 You are of course aware, that there was no original australian sleeper ship. This australian sleeper ship didn't just contain Australia - it contained A HELL OF A LOT of other countries as well. -=[]CALLING ALL AUSSIES[]=- - Dunny - 09-03-2009 Really? Interesting. Didn't mention that in the news article. It just said the Australian Sleeper Ship was destroyed after having been fully loaded. -=[]CALLING ALL AUSSIES[]=- - Rudo - 09-03-2009 I'm not so keen on factions or "clans" springing up based on nationality. It doesn't work for the non-english Russian players who pop up here, and it might get frowned upon for the Aussies. I also thought of a combat event where one side consists entirely of australian players and shuddered a bit. -=[]CALLING ALL AUSSIES[]=- - tansytansey - 09-03-2009 ' Wrote:I'm not so keen on factions or "clans" springing up based on nationality. Personally I think we should make an Australian system. Then it can be Bretonia's Prison system. >_> <_< -=[]CALLING ALL AUSSIES[]=- - Dunny - 09-03-2009 The Russians have the Coalition, mate...though then again the Coalition is Communist and Russia isn't anymore. UPDATE: New Zealanders are invited to become a part of this faction, now home to both Aussies and Kiwis. As for an all-Aussie combat...Bloodbath. -=[]CALLING ALL AUSSIES[]=- - Friday - 09-03-2009 Speaking as an Aussie I dont know about an Australian system as such... But there would have been plenty of expat Aussies at least on the Liberty and Bretonian ships. If over they time they decided to seek each other out, they could have formed their own clan of sorts. It may be worth a base, or heaven forbid even a planet. They would of course be strongly influenced by both Libertine and Bretonian culture - with a strong independant streak. To this end, I would suggest they could be a sub-faction of the IMG or Freelancers - basing out of Freeport 1/Coranado. The question is, what would they call themselves? They arent Australian or New Zealander any longer? They would need a decent name for their clan. Overall, there is something to be said about the ANZACs. They bring a dry humour and warrior spirit with them. I do believe this would be an enjoyable role to play. Provided an effort like this forges new RP, and recasts the role of the ANZAC in light of the history and culture of Sirius - it should be welcomed. If however, it is simply an exercise in patriotic wankery (if you will pardon the Aussie lingo there;)) - then it should be shown the door... -=[]CALLING ALL AUSSIES[]=- - Dunny - 09-03-2009 -=Nods=- Interesting call, Friday. Interesting indeed. Maybe illegial/quasi legal, like Junkers? After all...Bushrangers & Convicts ^.^ -=[]CALLING ALL AUSSIES[]=- - starkiller - 09-03-2009 i am aussie and i do not believe there should be a nation looking at how left out Gallia is. But a faction would b nice. Headquarters Would be DunDee |
