Another concept is that of a logo item/harpdoint. Not sure if its worth the work though....

if a cloak is an object that replaces the texture of the ship with an invisible one, maybe make the ID or some other item re-skin the ship

think of the possiblities! it does not stop at fighters! mining ships, freighters , transports, trains recoloured and polished and branded, would give a real 'pimp mah ride' feel to the game, only minus the neons and the screens.

we could even do ads!

Well, all you'd have to do is add in a new .MAT file, then make a new entry in shiparch. Not that difficult and not that much added to the mod size I suppose.

.Mat files are the largest part of any new model... it would be best if we used existing .Mat files to do it.

new mat file with must have textures named same as in original mat in order for this to work. And then when normal eagle meets reskinned....well...it will be funny...

Editing the .cmp would solve the issue, but then you have multiples of the model.

Better than funny texture mix-ups when different kinds of Eagles mix, no? CMP files are tiny any way.

The real people to convince would be Igiss and his senior staff. Mod size is a serious concern. Most .cmp files are small by themselves, but when introduced in multiple iterations can total a megabyte or more.

On its own thats not so bad, but if people start asking for the same treatment to other ships that could fast add up to several megabytes.

I don't mind, but some people definitely would.

Only ships it really needs to be done for it the Eagle and Roc, really. Not many people fly the Griffin so it would be a bit of a waste of time/space changing that one.

I personally think it would be a megabyte or two well spent.

Anyway, for starters, why not? It would probably be easier to do this than make new ships for every organisation...
