Crazy idea but... - Virus - 04-11-2007 ' Wrote:>snip< That is IMPOSSIBLE. Why? A CD cannot get "corrupted" you would simply have to reinstall. The CD-ROM is called that for a reason; "Compact Disk-Read Only Memory. ONLY readable. Unless... I'm reading it wrong and you don't mean having to get a new CD and just having to reinstall. Crazy idea but... - Qunitinius~Verginix - 04-11-2007 Still..... Everytime you died you would have to make a Complete re-installation of the game. Thats really not cool. Verginix Out Crazy idea but... - Infernias - 04-11-2007 Its not the CD files or the game data that gets corrupted, as far as i can tell it is some kind of hidden microsoft piracy protection program that kicks in when some fundamental function of the game is being edited. Either way, complete reinstalls of the game do not work to fix the problem, i believe it may affect something in the registry, or enact some form of making it so that the copy of freelancer used cannot be used again. Either way, all i know for sure is that a complete reinstall does not fix the problem caused, as it is described as a "complete corruption of the game install", so as far as i can tell it may have something to do with the registry (which naught but professionals should mess with). Also -- even if a disk is read only, should we underestimate microsoft to have some way of permanently damaging the files on a disk? not necessarily re-writing anything, just making it unusable. Crazy idea but... - fatbuddha - 04-11-2007 The error you talking about is because when your docked, your not online. Your connected sure but the station and everything in it is done locally and simply checked when you leave dock. I don't know how your friends could have made this succeed but kudos. Your battling three things as far as I know. 1st is the cheater detection 2nd is the location of your game/player id relative to where it was before and 3rd in whatever mechanics the game uses to reset chars after death. Though I don't think this would actually work I'm guessing looking into how the game keeps track of your location during in-flight log-off may shed some light on this. However, I'm thinking as is, its not possible. ps. I don't think the severity of the error you mention is directly related to the aforementioned carrier solution. I've messed around with many parts of this game even running it through the wringer with softice to see how it works and I haven't yet created an error like the one you mention. I suspect it was a perfect storm of variables to cause such an unusual error. Alright, buddy, first of all: A)Microsoft was too lazy to even finish the game, so why the hell would they put a frickin piracy protection program? B)Second of all, FL, along with tons of other games, are MADE TO BE MODDED!!!! It was made with un-protected files for the reason that it could be modded. Yeah... I doubt microsoft was that paranoic to make a security program. Crazy idea but... - PARAKEET - 04-13-2007 instead of reinstalling can't you just create system restore points? |
