A ship concept - Jimothy - 09-21-2009 Protect the MST event... hmm... *thinks* hmm... I Likey. A ship concept - elgeeko - 09-21-2009 Ill throw something out as soon as I can cook up a concept model but let me try and verbally sketch the basics any would have regardless of faction; 1; Likely asymetrical to some degree, probably in the sense that the bridge is set to one side like a conning tower. 2; A large open bay is the most visible feature, likely either opening straight out the front, filling one entire side, or in unconventional cases opening out the back. 3; Engines are nestled in the back and look like they're made for heavy duty moving of serious tonnage. Likely 4 engines arranged in a quad format. http://shipyards.relicnews.com/taiidan/carrier.htm Take that, scale it way down to between gunboat and cruiser size, make the bay part more of the ship and the back part less. Scale all windows etc to proper size to meet the new model size, slap on FL textures, smooth the back part down so the top is flat, the protrusion on the port side is the bridge. Voila. The basic idea. Protect the MST.... yes yes this will make excellent events... "A pirate faction intends to intercept an MST convoy on one of its rare and periodic returns to a base for servicing. the MST is escorted by a fighter wing and there are also two heavily laden transports in the convoy. The MST itself is also full of (valuable commodity here) so this would be a tremendous haul" Heck that might happen without any pre-planned event anyhow. Would give pirates something to scheme about beyond grabbing and robbing your average trader. MST's when properly escorted could also be an excellent refuge for almost-destroyed ships who need a place to escape enemy fire. Nestled inside a nook of the bay with stronger fighters outside defending it and the MST's thick hide between it and any danger... For the sake of ID rules, lets classify MSTs as a subclass of transports unless anyone else has any objections... A ship concept - tansytansey - 09-21-2009 Meh. Playerbases have been discussed before... Personally I wouldn't want to see a Newark or Ainu floating around, the use of mobile bases are only really needed for short-range ships operating on long range situations. But every ship in Freelancer is a long range ship. They can launch from a base many systems away and rendezvous at a tactical location without the need to refuel, resupply or repair. I just don't feel moving bases is something suited to the Freelancer Universe. A ship concept - Irate-Pirate - 09-21-2009 Take a shipyards docking ringy thingy, add a bridge, slap some engines on it and some cargo pods, shrink it a bit to make it fit and viola! Instant Junker Mobile Repair Station. Oh yeah don't forget the waldos. Lot's of waldos. A ship concept - elgeeko - 09-21-2009 ' Wrote:Meh. Playerbases have been discussed before... I agree totally... thats why an MST isn't a flying Newark. Its a non-battle ready cruiser-sized carrier designed for bot/batt resupply and material storage. A ship concept - Donutman - 09-22-2009 Buccaneer use for raiding station and depot-ing? YUS. A ship concept - Irra - 09-22-2009 Some how i see that 2 of those things feeding allies to endless battle and if you destroy one ... then ... 100000 bots flouting around ... and ... kinda with more then 5000 cargo i think it will get used for trading again ... unless you put some special ID that banns trading with it ... or used for mining but that wouldn't be so bad ... so is it dock able or just visual " docking " ... i mean there was talk about getting carriers to be dockable and if that gets implemented i would like to see this things dockable too:D... anyway i like it:D A ship concept - elgeeko - 09-23-2009 You would risk trading in a ship that can't cruise and would have 0% chance against even the most mediocre NPCs when un-escorted? I sure wouldn't  Besides, with no cruise it would be more profitable within a shorter time to just use a regular trade-ship. As for endless supplies in battles, well yes if you attack the MST its escorts will be fairy well regen'd I suppose... |
