I'll refer you to the two quickmask tutorials I posted earlier but add this:

[Image: 32px-Nuvola_mimetypes_txt.png] Using Quickmask
[Image: 32px-Nuvola_mimetypes_txt.png] More Quickmasks

When you've used the lasso tool and pressed quick mask, you'll automatically enter quick mask mode (see pic 1) and the colours will automatically convert to black foreground colour and white background colour (see pic 2).

Pic 1:

Notice that the left square is the active one. This is the quick mask.

Pic 2:

The black colour will remove visible pixels and white will reveal pixels from the mask.

You're getting there..

Good job on the helmet.

How come the ship's so dark? It might help me if you posted the original pictures.

About the text, you might want to try to keep them the same colour or keep them within the range of colours in the rest of the pic. You could use the eydropper tool to get the same colour as in the eyes and use that on the text.

Here's a nice site for colours:
[Image: 32px-Nuvola_mimetypes_txt.png] Well Styled - Color Scheme Generator
A very nice utility for matching colours.

I'd recommend getting a better pic of the ship. That one's too dark. The thing is, that dark a pic lacks the colour to brighten it and make it look nice. Rather get a better pic of the ship and then go take a screenie of that same background without the ship and paste in the brighter pic and then use the quickmask method to mask out the bright background. You can always make the ship darker if it doesn't look right from the start.

PS: the one you sent me for your current SIG is a nice one..
