Although the Discovery Scanner is in RP... some Order voodoo, I dunno....

Besides RP, dump it for an Adv Scanner.

I have a discovery scanner on most of my transports, simply for mapping purposes.

I use a disco scanner on my transports, liners, etc. Mapping is excellent with them. For my others I use the Adv. Cargo. I've found them useful. It's true about the weapons scan with the disco... but ultimately the decision to engage or not will occur when both parties have had a chance to see each other, correct?

I've been in cold storage for a while, but I doubt this has been updated.

The Discovery Scanner is far better depending on certain circumstances. One of the main advantages that hasn't been mentioned is the fact that the disco scanner has better range in clouds or gas nebulae, whereas the Adv. Cargo Scanner will pick up targets far too late. I don't remember the exact stats, since I've been off the server for around a year now.

If you have a ship you use purely for combat, slap a disco scanner on that, since you won't really need to bothering with scanning for cargo or ID, etc... until you get very close. For traders, the Disco Scanner is better for detecting potential enemies in gas clouds, since your "scan" won't be obscured as much. For piracy and policing, I'd use the Advanced Cargo Scanner.

Maybe i got this wrong to... But i got discovery because as a miner in a transport, it is more useful to find jump holes, mine sites, ect than scan someone's cargo(Correct me if i should for some reason be scanning everyone's cargo). If they have weapons and come after me scanning there cargo is not going to help me anyway, but discovering new jump holes while fleeing from a wild? Thats really useful to me.

Just my possibly ill informed opinion and justification as to why i have it.

Main advantage is scaning for their ID at max range.

It may SAY freelancer IFF, but may be an indie pirate.

I understand what you mean. However in my experience if im four kilometers away from a pirate... its just to late for me already. I more sit 10km away for a minute if there is people at jump gate, and see if they move. Seems to be a good indicator. however its go thru them, find a jump hole shortcut or take the long long way around. The discovery helps with finding the jump shortcut.

Just What i have found.

Once youve mapped the routes, switch to adv cargo because at that point the disco scanner becomes useless.

That or buy a BS lisence and have 10k range and 4k cargo scan range.
