I trade. I perform guard duties around Freeports. I perform patrols between Freeports. I escort other Zoners. I bring supplies to other factions that need them regardless of if said factions are at war or peace with each other. I explore. Most of this is for my own benefit or for the benefit of those around me; same as every other person out there.

The question should be: Why do zoners need and build huge war ships if they are in love with everyone?
In the human psychology, there is no such thing like neutrality. Everyone has a rival, enemy, or tries to be better then who knows what guy. OR, if you are the best in what you do, you will have enemies all the time. So... another question: Why Zoners don't have any enemies?

Zoners are rich. Very. When everyone near you is flying big bad ships and they -could- trying to pirat/get the cargo your transport friend is carrying, you need to have a proper counter. Also, many Zoners caps aren't fitted for fight. Corvo cruiser is a deep exploration cruiser and Juggernaut is a flying Freeport.
