Is it possible to pirate in a p-trans alone? Pretty much every time I've tried, no matter what I'm pirating, they've managed to get away before I can kill them.

Jon, you must be doing it horribly horribly wrong.
1) what is your loadout?
2) make sure you pirate in open space, disrupting lanes, making sure the nearest docking place is 30k away. They'll never ever get there unless they're mounting a Cap armor upgrade, and even then, they die.

Six Type 2s and 3 Type 1s, of which one of the Type 1s is rear-facing. Should I switch to type 3s? I do seem to be running out of energy very quickly.

Not immediately, a recruit has to log 8 hours on a Greyhound and is then allowed to use a Barghest.

Nopthing stopping you keeping the barghest for indy work whilst you gather the eight hours though. Although I would definitely prefer you to work the Greyhound magic before barghesting.

However you'll need to accept that if they're returning fire youre GOING to run out of energy a few times on bigger ones (it its a shire dont waste your time unless he has a crap loadout) so you can use that time to RP.
Also, two type 1 foward and the rest type three also works good, not as quickly instakill powerful as type two's but more long term efficenecy.
