Oh, since I am very bad at describing things, Can someone help Dop check and see if his computer even detects the USB ports (Without him plugging them in), cause it could also be a hardware conflict.

im supposed to have 6 ports listed in "my computer." there are four. the others cannot be detected through search, manually typing in the directory, anything.

ok, thanks for trying. i've had this computer for around 3 years, so it doesnt make sense to have a hardware conflict all of a sudden
regarding the "port not a high-speed port", hp said that
"This message can occur when:...A high-speed device is connected to a hi-speed USB 2.0 port, but the connection is poor (cable too long, inferior cable type, low power situation)."
possibly my cables got worn out?

Hmm. IF an USB hub disappeared, try entering the BIOS to check if they are all enabled. Some motherboards allow you to disable each hub independently.
If not, it might be incompatibility... But you said those worked in the past.
Strange.
Try adding an USB port card, to see if you can connect through that one.

the BIOS? im not quite that advanced, how do i do it?
i don't have the money for buying a new card, would one of these (http://www.amazon.com/iConcepts-75053-2-0-USB-Port/dp/B0000AS4U2) work to try it out?

When you start your computer, in the first screen you see, where it will probably say HP in big letters, look in the corners. It tells you a button to press to enter the BIOS. This is the screen where all the base working perameters of the computer are set.
Now, dont change anything to do with voltages or frequencies unless you (think, like me xD) that you know what you are doing.
Just check all the Tabs to see where the USB drives are listed.

Get a hammer and................:lol:
Try find the ones that do work
then open up your CPU and check the ones that are not working and see if there connected and reconnect them if not. still don't work well your guess is as good as mine.

Try rolling back your USB Mass Storage Device driver. Works for me.
