Yeah, except the Whale is one of the 'lesser' transports, though it has the greatest cargo of them.
This would be something like a new 'major' transport, costing about as much as a Container or Large Train, but with 400 or 500 less cargo (so around 4000, more than a Whale). Two CM slots might be pretty cool, but I've never completely emptied one...
If I had any experience with it, or any artistic ability, I might try throwing together a model. But I don't, so I won't.
As for the Barge, I'm sure some people would love it (I wouldn't, I can't stand the flying brick that is my container transport). Even if it lacked an escort, it would take a swarm of fighters picking away to take it down... Or a bomber.

A barge was my bet...
One, huge, monstrous transport ship, deprived of armament or any powerful shield. Cargo space would be its only virtue. Expensive like a battleship or worse, but being capable of getting another ship of its type in no-time.

i was thinking weaker (or no) shields, and weaker hull so that it wouldn't take a swarm, only one or two persistant bombers.

Oh, dzyeah, Basilisk as VHF, Saber as LF mk II, Lagg as bomber(may also be kamov) and as your own, private cap - the Pukov/Varyag-class carrier. Ufelsky-class cruisers wouldn't do harm too, same as Shavrov transprots (beautiful replacement for the train it would be)

I'm sure as hell, that I saw Starlancer ships on other mods. Compared to FL, their textures are obviously outdated, but look nice nevertheless. Something should be DL-able from TLR (didn't find anything yet)

Voted for "something else".
Generally agree with Ghost that the pirates need a cargo ship to call their own. The corsairs have an upgraded mule but the guys on the outcast side have nothing at all after they're done with the Dromedary (not counting capships).
