Since Freelancer lore claims shields don't work on big ships anyway I don't see the difference between using one shield on a transport and using six:)

the difference is....
a sheild ends damage...nothing passes through...so, if your shield has 1 health, it can still take an entire nova hit.
so, six pathetic shields, can help take a whole lot of hits.
