I'm new to Discovery and I had the same question. I play offline in OpenSP with no other mods (other than D4.85). I've seen a Rheinland cruiser & wraiths hanging out near Vierlande Prison in the Hamburg system, but aside from that I haven't encountered any random battleships patrolling. I've been spending most of my time relieving Liberty Rogue ships of their pilots and shuttling them to LPI Huntsville and I've yet to see a capital ship patrol near Houston, even though the .ini file gives them a 10% encounter probability. Any idea what's up with this? I did some more investigating by setting up a local LAN. Whoa--cap ship city! First stop is Manhattan and there's a Dreadnought and a gaggle of cruisers hanging with him. Never seen that in the OpenSP version before. The lack of cap ship encounters is disappointing but there's an additional factor that's directly detrimental to gameplay: seemingly no house military encounters, period. The .ini file for Hudson (and probably Bering, too) gives a 100% chance of Rheinland Military and Liberty Navy ships patrolling their respective jump gates. Makes sense because there's a war on. Instead, nothing at all. In addition, no Liberty Navy patrols in Texas, New York or Colorado _except for_ when you're deep in an asteroid field. This makes me believe that it does have something to do with trade lane zones. This is peculiar and detracts from the game. Any idea why the house militaries are so rare? Like I said, they're in the .ini files, they just don't show up in the gameplay. Thanks, Jeff |
