All I really wanted to do was play the SP campaign in a superscaled version of freelancer. I did manage to scale the model down, but I have no knowlege of how to put an untextured unhitboxed model in-gamel, so meh. Anyway, theres a lot of work involved with it, like hardpoints, guns, gun particles etc... If anyone can help... I hear that would make for some extreme mods... I actually know very little about modding, I am more into the artistic and design side of things... I simply love the simple yet epic game freelancer is... with it's technology base and storyline... I have been looking for another newer game like it that might do the genre more justice, with better scale or graphics... maybe seamless atmospheric landings on planets... that sort of thing... Crossfire mod certainly pushes the game engine as far as it can go, in fact if everyone from Crossfire and Discovery merged it would make for the pinnacle of what is possible with the game... So until I move to EVE online or Infinity: quest for earth or something else Freelancer certainly ticks all the boxes of an open online space-faring game... Besides... I don't feel like forking out cash for another game right now when I can play freelancer for free... Discovery broke the 9,999,999 credit limit on npc sold items And broke the 999,999,999 credit limit per character. They also broke the 5 character limit, but it ended up corrupting player accounts so they keep the 5 characters. Give the devs time and I'm 100% positive they can break the 300K limit aswell. Give them 2-3 years, and they'll have the source code mapped. To scale solar system mod - Jinx - 09-22-2010 i haven t really read all - but just a few numbers: the diameter of the sun of the sol system is around 138.000.000 square kilometers. the diameter of the sun in manhattan is around 1 square kilomter realistic measures are impossible ... and totally boring, too. we can assume that a tradelane may catapult the ship at lightspeed towards its destination. - we can also assume that manhattan may be ( in an ideal case ) as far from the sun as earth from our sun. the light needs around 8 minutes to go from the sun to earth. soo - to get from manhattan to like california jumpgate ( which might be like 2.5 times the distance from manhattan to the sun ) - takes you around 20 minutes of utter boredom. add to that that the game is a dogfight game ( meaning, its not simulating modern warfare, but rather world war 1 warfare in planes ) everything about realistic scaling gets down to become a compromise between gameplay and realism. if scales were realistic - and we believe that the liberty navy deploys billions ( literally ) of battleships and cruisers - all the size of small cities - chances that they meet with the rheinland military in space are lower than winning the lottery 10 times in a row. To scale solar system mod - Lance_Uppercut - 09-22-2010 I'm behind any plan that resizes planets and solars more realistically, but as Jinx points out, full-scale models are impossible. I do believe, though, that we can make good if not subtle changes in planet size relational to ship size. I get a bit queasy every time I fly around a planet in less than a minute... To scale solar system mod - yurineova - 09-22-2010 and as I pointed out repeatedly, I support a general resize, jsut not to insanely large levels. I'd assume a system could be expanded to 1,500K before problems emerge, which means we can expand the scale to match that. thats what? 1:5 scale if a system on average is 300K big? 5x bigger would be interesting. To scale solar system mod - sobuor - 09-22-2010 try the firefly mod it's all one huge system they did a pretty ok job with it To scale solar system mod - yurineova - 09-22-2010 ' Wrote:try the firefly modI'll stick with discovery. melikey better. Oh, I believe the limit also was because the systems preloaded and going past that point kilsl the preload, which in turn the system cant register. In other words, you cant manually fly form say New Berlin to Hamburg because the Jumpgate/hole is what intiates the preload of the system. It kills you to prevent that preload methinks or other complications. |
