I get the feeling the original poster was inquiring to other, existing 4.85 servers - wether or not those will be forced to update to 4.86. I don't think this is the case, although I doubt you could log onto a 4.86 server with a 4.85 mod client, or vice-versa.

So the current server used for 4.85 just updates and the general discovery 24/7 RP server will only be accesable when you have 4.86

To answer the original question (which I note wasn't there when I posted my first post)
Yes, this will happen automatically when the server is upgraded to the new mod.
...except for Mr Joker's ships which will be deleted again.
