Sir. Excuse me but pirating is about Role-Play. It's about the value of the encounter, not the value of the amount of credits that ends up in your hold. You are not supposed to be acting like a real criminal, greedy and desperate, no that would totally break the immersion as in comparison to you following the norms set up by other players which are based on fictional fairness. I advise you to reconsider your position on this matter.

Yes, that is very true. When I do pirate roleplay, I don't ever ask for credits. I demand jokes and an RP lap-dance.

Then if we don''t follow RL situations we don't need to RP them. Because Somalian pirates are not gentle guys. And they won't make you happy from taking your money.

Oh but allow me to retort good sir!

Let us re-define the term "real criminal" to a "criminal from a novel I just read." Does that shatter your argument based on not following real-life situations?

Tea, perhaps?

No. I don't want any pirate to chew my ears off. I want evil, bad pirates who really pose a challenge to me as a trader.

A good encounter for me is the one where I get my cargo safely delivered despite passing a bunch of able pirates.

Besides that, Praedictum didn't say anything about the quality of the involved roleplay. He just cries over his financial loss.

Are you the one that demanded a shrubbery?!

Seriously though, if you take the risk of flying alone, you cant whine. There are pirates out there that will make outrageous demands, or just kill you regardless, sometimes without RP. Thats life, hire an escort, or try again.

Considering the fact that an ore cargo is worth 50-80 million, is 13 million all that much?

Indeed good sir, quite the handful you got there!

Because a good encounter in your eyes is of course when your best interests are served, that is good Role-Play indeed. When you get to keep all of your cargo and I must play the witty villain who talks to you through metaphors and poetry instead of acting <strike>like a real criminal</strike> like-a-criminal-from-a-novel-since-we-can't-ever-use-real-life-comparisons.

But I must confess, your perspective truly is fascinating and insightful. Good show, good show.

A pirate will typically ask for as much as he can get away with. If you pay it, that was the maximum. If you don't, he went past the maximum.

For me only, piracy should be fun and sometimes uncomfortable.
I don't want to meet a trader who says "Oh it's you again, yeah sure, heres $2 mill, bye" because that doesn't satisfy my demand for roleplay.
If he plays it out a little and it goes both ways, then we can separate on terms which will be conducive to our next meeting.
I'm not going to take 100 units of gold ore on my bomber because whats the point?
I'll have the cash and you save on the insurance premiums.
If I'm in a transport however, I'll take a good chunk of that cargo and if you make me work for it, the price goes up.
There are pirates that take everything but for me, whats the point of taking everything first off?
If the mark feels like he's going to lose everything anyway, he'll fight and be damned because it will make no difference. They may well kill him and get all the cargo. Whats left?
A bad taste in the mouth of the trader and full transport that now has to go home cos he can't take anymore. Wow, that must be a real good experience...
You have to play the game both ways because thats what it is. A game and games are meant to be fun.
