Xfire is terrible for group voice chats. It regulates the call quality based on the person with the crappiest connection.

Its persistent group chats are awkward and hard to remember where they're hiding.

You can't edit Xfire messages like you can with Skype.

The thing I use Xfire for is recording video and taking screenshots, plus keeping my gametime up to date.

Skype doesn't have an in-game UI.

Teamspeak doesn't have text chat that's efficient.

X-Fire is mostly used for gaming chats (and making screens and videos), while Skype is ultimate chatting system, it's not directed to gamers only, while X-Fire is used by smaller, gamers audience. Why we should install one software to talk with the rest of the world and install another one to chit-chat with game mates? I think it's the waste of space and time. Skype is software which uses less resources and have bigger audience.

If you don't trust Xfire, you shouldn't trust Skype either.

Don't, Xfire steals your children.

Alrighty, to answer peoples comments and to clear stuff up.

1. Xfire HAS INGAME: chat, voice chat, screenshot, video. All while you can keep playing.

2. Chat rooms and Factions can be established easily by using the clan system. Nothing hard about it.

3. Has a "wall" or a space via clan/faction website to post news events, can be kept to faction eyes only.

4. About voice qual. Group admin can set the transfer ratio. So it doens't suck just cause one person does.

BUT.... Skype seems to be whats dominent here so... guess it'll have ter do unless folks wana change.

I'll just have to run my IP router so my campus don't see me downloading Skype.... again

Yes but it takes more effort then to simply make a skype chat room.

There we have it, Skype require little effort for most to use and is therefore the most popular communication software used here.

It's simple, intuitive and moderately efficient. Personally I wouldn't want to fiddle with all the buttons and sliders in Xfire before getting into a group conversation.

lolwat? Xfire does has voice. where'd you get that from?

And xfire supports ingame web browsing. Never have to tab out again and get killed when using xfire

Oh, and Xfire uses less RAM than skype

And requires less memory for installation than skype

Skype is the platform Disco uses, deal with it. If you want to use Xfire, go ahead. The majority of players, including me, will use Skype.
