Whether I will be in faction or not, I can have fun both ways. You can ask to be added to skype chat as indie. If they don't add you... How can you hope to even be recruited.
IMHO, factions are overrated aspect of discovery.
The smaller the group - the friendlier relationships are.
I never felt real difference when being LN or [LN], except that being "one" from official, you get more "respect" from some players or characters. And such fake thing is never good.
I am in two factions, IC| - not official (yet) and sub-faction of official Molly Council. I don't reap any benifits. I just play the game I like with people I can have fun. *waves to nubs in both factions*

Some faction have to live up to the status, that puts unnecessary strain on players, causing friction in gameplay.
So to sum up: play the damn game. Don't join faction just out of "duty" or with hopes to get benifits.

I do agree, that some factions do take power too far, and do put constraints on members.
I however do not see this in any faction that I am in, or indeed any that I lead. Factions are a great place to meet people, set up RP, set up convoys etc.
I believe that they provide a certain level of order and organisation which is needed for Disco.
HOWEVER, lets not turn this into an indie vs faction debate. Let us say for now, that IF you are interested in factions in any way, please consider some of the above.

great, so maybe they will be replaced by much better and more active factions then,which couldnt be official due to the one ID - one fac rule.
So the answer is no...i do not want to help inactive factions to survive and taking the opportunity from currently more active independent factions to become official.

If this were the case with ANY of the factions, I would agree. It isn't.
The NPC factions of Disco should stay around, they have established story lines, NPCs, Bases, etc.
As far as benefits, we've all gone over this 1,000x so I won't argue it again. If you have an indie trader, cool, keep him. If you want some interesting RP though, hop on one of the less active trading factions and enjoy all sorts of different interactions in them. It's really worth it.

Well alot of factions will not let players use ships they already have.(to big,need a higher rank/Does not fit their ship list,and so on). Also i have been in a few pirate/military factions. I was OPG in past,and a few players killed the faction,and even those not involved got sanctioned for what a few bad apples did.
That being said, I have an ALG char,and would be willing to join ALG to help out as he is active every day. As long as they allow me to keep the Civ advanced train he flies.(Stork). ALG leader,or who ever has power just PM me,or look for Bad-Apple ingame. He hauls waste/H-fuel/plutonium/Mox,and other toxic comodities i find ALG RP. Runs with radioative containers,and has been pimped with orange warning lights.
