I will ask super tech support man tomorrow(My school's computer lab manager).

So the main problem is that the monitor goes to sleep...or the comp goes to sleep?

The new monitor.

Are you sure its your primary monitor... ?

Also, you could try disabling the built in monitor, though I dont know how it can be done, as I know next to nothing about laptops.

*tick... tock... tick...tocSMASH!!!*

Under what conditions does your monitor go to sleep, or is it just random?

It goes to sleep when I click 'use as primary'.

That is when you drag the monitor in the properties (when you right click and hit properties on the desktop) to be the primary monitor right?

If so, I have no idea why that happens, as it certainly doesn't happen when i'm dual-screening my computer...

Ok i was working with him last night on skype trying to figure it out...this is what happened so that maybe a more technically able person can find a remedy...

So first thing we tried to do was check on the age of the video driver, 2005. Updated that but still no luck and despite following the directions the old driver was not overwritten. We then found that in device manager there are five (was it five?) Plug and Play Monitors when there should be only two...any ideas folks?

OKies here goes....

After reading I am assuming you are connecting your monitor to a lap top and plan to use the monitor is your only display.
There generally are two main possibilities that will cause this.

1. There is a CRT/LCD switch on your laptop. You press it once (function Key plus (laptop/CRT icon)) and it turns both of em on. You do it again and it goes solely to CRT. Some CRT displays will not show images if the image is being shared on Lappy's screen. Try pressing the function/button key combo twice.

2. Native resolution is not supported by the monitor. You can check this by starting the system in safe mode (lowest resolution/ no bells and whistles loaded) and try to use the function to swap around till you get an inage.

Let me know what you find (in detail) and I will help you resolve it.

Kind regards,
Pip.
