Do you think that the actual tradesystem is the best? - Panzer - 01-25-2008 Cute new feature it would be... If it's to be added, then disco will probably have a 5 in front of the version's number. Do you think that the actual tradesystem is the best? - Othman - 01-25-2008 Well that would be cute really.. But would take some hard labour.. Do you think that the actual tradesystem is the best? - El Nino - 02-23-2008 On the other hand, just tweaking the current system would be sufficent, fixing some strange things, making trading a generaly fun experience, keeping the high paying routes dangerous, (i mean really dangerous, so dangerous that you would get with only half your hull left, when you get back)...ect:P If someone feels bored on the same route... find a new one... It is discovery..., and when you trade you have to ask yourself why... to trade, or to buy a capship... If you trade, for the fun of trading, you will find that there are so many routes you can take, that are far from booring, and so many systems you can wisit on a dime... Do you think that the actual tradesystem is the best? - badkarmasix - 02-27-2008 The Crossfire mod has a dynamic economy. The mod has a launcher which reads the current commodities info from the server each time you open it. I imagine the file updates every time the server resets. As to how the economy works, I can't really say for sure. I assume it has a lot to do with volumes traded for each commodity - the more a commodity is traded, the more it is worth. Not really that "dynamic," but player-driven to be sure. Problem is, any group of players with sufficient trading capacity could put a run on any commodity and thereby manipulate the economy as they saw fit. A more dynamic ecomony in Freelancer would be rather impossible, I think. You would have to limit the supply of each commodity based on any number of factors - production capacity, resources, availability, etc. Can't really be done in Freelancer. And there are the political effects. In Discovery, certain goods would fetch a very high price in Kusari because of the war (engine components, fuel, etc.). Anyway, I think the economy in Discovery is quite good. I would like to see some prices changed to reflect the events of the war. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more contraband commodities, or a few more profitable smuggling runs added at least. But that's just because I happen to be a smuggler. Plus great RPing opertunities Do you think that the actual tradesystem is the best? - Xing - 03-11-2008 dynamic econoy would be funny. Everyone would be mining junk in omega 15 if it goes by the "more it is traded more it is worth". Um, a dynamic economy would make that make it cost less, due to oversupply for limited demand. Argh... you're making me think like one of those capitalist pig dogs! Stop it! Do you think that the actual tradesystem is the best? - Xing - 03-11-2008 Yes sir. We are now imposing communist economy on Cape Verde: everything that you sell at this base, will be worth 50 Sirius Credits, no discussion. Everything you buy at that base, well, that... depend. Of course, that was a joke - still would be funny... Do you think that the actual tradesystem is the best? - Unseelie - 03-11-2008 Blunt... Communism is based on economics of scarcity, just like capitalism, and assigns value the same way. The Crossfire reset thing looks doable....measure what the players are trading and adjust prices depending on that...the math wouldn't need to be that complicated, either...has promise, really. EDIT: again....communism does not work that way. Prices are not equal, capital is distributed equally. One can produce X cars or Y tractors, so each induvidual in the system owns X/n cars and Y/n tractors, but X != Y, and so, if Verde wants to trade with the rest of sirius, it must adjust its prices accordingly. I was correcting Xing's error, which he accepted. EDIT: Xing was making a joke! A JOKE! You know, NOT based on real economic theory, which any one-eyed toddler could understand, but playing on stereotypes?! |
