Same with when im helping people guard rep by taking missions and camping the planet/station.
I just spam some nonesence in the consol if they take too long or nothing is said for a while. keeps me from being kicked and nobody sees my ingame sneeze. lol.

You're aware of this feature, you move out for a 'diplomatic meeting', -then- you realize your rep is low and you can't dock and get mad? Maybe you shoulda repped your ship properly beforehand so this wouldn't happen.
This feature was added to remove some of the repninjas that doesn't make sense (IMG-BMM, Daumann-BMM, Hessian-IMG, etc.) only because players from each faction were not supposed to dock on each other's bases, but having them red caused even more unneeded problems. (Whole place turning red when an IMG convoy is passing next to Leeds and a single BMM startracker NPC shows up.)
So it actually is useful, much more useful than you may think, because obviously you haven't lost 20k mined ore in one single convoy because of a stupid repninja, so you wouldn't know.
Also, issue of the base turning red is not related to this new feature. When this was first added, I tried docking 2 of my chars with a couple of bases to see how it works, none turned red. Most probably, a hostile NPC from an allied faction to the base owner had popped on scanner, which had caused the base to go red because your rep is not good enough with them.
For example, if you're hostile to Republican, but neutral with Military, Military bases will turn red if you're closeby and a Republican NPC spawns. (You can thanks Cannon for that one as well)
And also, as others said, you won't get kicked from a base if you're chatting. Idle kicking is only for when you're not doing anything notable by server.

while you were in omega 3 some of our guys were already patrolling in that area, and what do you know, they thought it was a good idea to go there and teach you a lesson, and trust me, we dont need a ganksquad to do that. this is the RHA son, you get cocky with us in Rheinland, you will get shot.

but back on topic, another annoying thing about this are Guard reps. You can have full normal rep and white guard rep, but you still can't dock on the guard bases. This might be not so often a problem, but guard reps can be a pain.
