French Language and Liberty - Pinko - 09-01-2011 ' Wrote:Another thought: given the nature of Freelancer's stereotypically divided universe, I also wouldn't be surprised if any former French Canadians had ended up throwing their lot in with the Zoners, perhaps feeling more "at home" among a group that already was composed of multiple cultures rather than as minorities in a largely anglophonic societiy. Thanks for your input, Hielor, what you say makes sense. I was wondering, since the Hispanic worlds also have several languages in it, so I figured it wouldn't be a stretch for the American house to have a (if but rare) equivalent. Spanish could also be common. French Language and Liberty - Omicron - 09-01-2011 There is diversity in sleeper ship Hispania since they packed many people there, not only from Spain/Portugal. Big chunks come from Italy but would not be surprised seeing lots of other countries from Europe. I am surprised there is no Indian people in Bretonia or multitude of cultures inside Liberty. I am surprised there is no Indian people in Bretonia or multitude of cultures inside Liberty.Well, the lack of a multitude of cultures inside Liberty despite the presence of multiple cultures in modern America is easily explained by the nature of the Freelancer universe, as I mentioned in my earlier post that I think got lost in all the ninja-editing: ' Wrote:Given that the US has subcultures from all over the world, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find any given language spoken in Liberty, realistically speaking. French Language and Liberty - Omicron - 09-01-2011 I dont see any culture in USA that can be named "dominating" to be put as Liberty. Your point? But allow me to explain my post. You could have elaborated a bit on it as you did in your second post. Posting it in the oh-god-a-smart-commet style just made you look insulting, trolling even French Language and Liberty - Hielor - 09-01-2011 ' Wrote:I dont see any culture in USA that can be named "dominating" to be put as Liberty. Your point? The culture of the "USA" section of Disney's Epcot Center, perhaps? Take away what are generally referred to as "minority" cultures, and what you're left with is the "dominant" culture that Freelancer refelects as Liberty. French Language and Liberty - Not Espi - 09-02-2011 well - they DID kill off all the black people, it seems (bandit) French Language and Liberty - Jansen - 09-02-2011 Its been a few hundred years since the sleeper ships left Sol, so the easiest answer I could think of is that the French speakers got assimilated over that long period of time. The people that arrived in Sirius might still have had some knowledge about the language, but thats been lost over the generations as its not really useful to speak a different language then all the other people do. French Language and Liberty - Not Espi - 09-02-2011 people in GALLIA speak english. DUH! |
