Mercenary on contract... - Ion - 03-06-2008 IF they did let him dock, then he undocked and supported the hunter, (within 1k of the station i might add) you think they would EVER let him land again? Mercenary on contract... - tfmachad - 03-06-2008 ' Wrote:...I sincerely think it would be worse if he docked there AFTER killing a character aligned to the base. Mercenaries ARE backstabbing bastards, specially the independent ones. And I don't mean this as criticism. It's only that independents can afford to act in a more erratic way than the ones working in an organization. Why do you think the first merc ban was issued in Rheinland? For this exact same reason. The guy came, helped us in battle, docked at New Berlin, then launched and killed two of us before we could react. Even though it sucked for us, I have to give it to the guy, he performed superbly, he gained our trust and then cut our throats. If he docked at New Berlin AFTER that, then I'd say he was crossing the RP line. Bottom line is, don't trust the bastards, or trust those you know from experience won't turn against you. Or at least think they won't. A fair bit of work, but he would be allowed to land again, just so long as he didn't make a habit of blasting them outside the base, in this case a habit is doing it twice. Once can be defined as an oops moment, twice is just malicious. Mercenary on contract... - Lohingren - 03-06-2008 right well basically this is what happened what gronath said.... i got worried a little when puck said the redock thing.... but he didnt redock puck so theres that out the window also... lets just put it this way for now you got screwed? leave it at that battles get won and lost, just so happens this merc pulled the wool over yours and buffalo base's eyes. im sure they would not let him dock again (or not for a while anyway) until he shows his allegiance to the pirates again. i dont see anything wrong here at all to that effect basically he docked - undocked - shot em up - left .... he didn't re-dock //edit meh buffalo is the rogues main base i doubt they'd let him redock after blowing up someone in they're face, as i said not for a while anyway Mercenary on contract... - Thor22 - 03-06-2008 ' Wrote:IF they did let him dock, then he undocked and supported the hunter, (within 1k of the station i might add) I didn't land again, I immediatly left, maybe I also recognised - even with my tiny mercenary brain - that they wouldn't be too thrilled about me docking there... dunno where you got the idea that I re-docked. Mercenary on contract... - Ion - 03-06-2008 I never said he redocked... i just implied he was burning bridges. I think that Mercenary (BHG too for that matter) reputation works just fine in Disco. You have the renowned groups like the JG, DW and the Mandalorians. The main aspect of these groups is that they provide a blanket reputation for their members. You may not know Joe'Doe[M], but you're likely to know the [M] tag, then you have a good idea where you stand. The same guy that spent three hours floating in Manhattan the day before will be buying two new ships the next following days, so he can keep up with all the work he'll have when working for us, or some of the other groups. Because those groups worked and worked hard to build a reputation. Same goes for independents. Most of the time I'm playing trader, I like to have an escort. I could just hire anyone outside of Manhattan, but there are a couple of people that I'll give preference to; people I learned from experience that can put up a fight if push comes to shove and that are able to keep an RP conversation during the dull moments of trading. But I'm not sure this is what you were talking about. EDIT: Same goes for the bad things. Did you see what happened to the whole JG when Space Tracker thought it was funny to completely disregard their ways? The whole group was kicked out of Liberty because of his actions and they had to work fast to save face and expelled the guy from their organization. A Mercenary's job is 70-80% diplomacy, 20-30% action. Mercenary on contract... - Reverend Del - 03-06-2008 Yes the [M], the DW and the [JG] have a reputation that they need to uphold, and they do it with flair, acting in all ways like I'd assume a mercenary should, and as the JG showed, failure to adhere to the RP of these groups will generally backfire badly, but it's the indie mercs I'm really getting at. Three that I know of DarkAngel , Ibanez and Proserpine work very well, but I'm not sure the rest quite get what it is to be a merc, generally mistrusted and always trying to find work, they fail to see that reputation gets you further than anything and don't want to build a rep up just want to kill everything that moves. Also the lawfuls seem to be of the opinion that one bad merc means all mercs are bad, and that shouldn't be so. Almost all mercs are entities unto themselves with the exception of the three Merc groups mentioned. I've been playing and running shadworun games for close to twenty years, I know what being a merc is about and with the exception of the examples mentioned I don't see much Mercenary RP being done. Especially when it comes to the reputation side of things. And I'm not talking about Rep sheet here, I'm talking about reputation with other players and groups.
