If we have a smuggler ID it really should mean something. Smuggling Vs Legal trading - pipsqueak - 03-12-2008 Quote:It should be illegal on this server to have contraband cargo in your hold without having a Smuggler ID equipped. WRONG!!!!.....smugglar ID is oxymoronic. Remove it from the mod. If I am a smugglar, why would I advertise it ? How about a ID named "Rogue spy " when I fly as a liberty officer. (being sarcastic if you haven't caught on). How about "Corrupt Officer"...sheesh. DRAW a line man. I do not smuggle, but if I did, there is no way in hell I would advertize that. Scan my cargo. and see if I am a smugglar. I'd rather suggest a way where the smuggle goods do not show up on radar till you are 500 distance away. Ask em to stop, if they dont, open fire to stop em. if they are legit, they will stop for you to scan em. If you can, do something about speed docking on bases and planets. That will keep the smugglars from hitting the morring dock and F3'ing out. May be set it up on a few planets where smuggling is prominent. I think the key thing is IF we have one it should mean something... Personally I agree that no criminal would ever broadcast the fact... but yet we have Pirate tags. IF the tag exists then there should be an associated restriction put on the trader tag. Smuggling Vs Legal trading - cgaWolf - 03-12-2008 Tbh, i'm in favor of keeping the Smuggler ID & only allowing IDed people to carry contraband according to server rules (as opposed to the honest trader tag). I don't agree with everyone hunting them on an empty hold though. A cop can know a guy does shady deals every now and then, but if he catches him with an empty hold, shooting him up shouldn't be allowed (queue familiar Millenium Falcon / Firefly scenes) Smuggling Vs Legal trading - Quigs - 03-12-2008 Pirates aren't sneaky about pirating. Smugglers ARE sneaky about smuggling. The two shouldn't be treated in the same manner. We also should assume that house corporations, especially those with shady track records, will involve themselves in questionable behaviour. Companies in an environment like Sirius (or... say... modern Western nations) figure out at what point potential repercussions exceed expected profitability, and they ride that line very closely. CP Smuggling Vs Legal trading - Stoat - 03-12-2008 Yes, the smuggler ID should be there, as Aster correctly states there are already pirate tags and no self respecting pirate would really advertise themselves so openly. Traders should not be allowed to smuggle goods "unlawful" goods (cardamine, artifacts etc) under any circumstances. They should be smuggling things like Deuterium to Kusari through Bretonia however. The Smuggler ID should NEVER be a permit for any character to fire on a ship (really strongly disagree with Yngen on that one). The only time that should be allowed is if they're carrying illegal goods and refuse to drop the goods/pay the fine. Otherwise you can kiss that particular RP route goodbye. The only problem is making the routes dangerous when players aren't around. No-one is really worried about NPC patrols in the Houses. Let's face it, they're pretty toothless really, as far as Smugglers are concerned as they'd be neutral with house NPCs. So bumping up the profit margins is questionable from a balance point of view. In my opinion. Edit: True, Creampuff. But the smuggler ID should be the pointer to shady dealings, not an "Unlawful" Id. Then any faction can use the ID and have the tag correctly aligned. I honestly think it's the Trader ID that needs to go. Smuggling Vs Legal trading - cgaWolf - 03-12-2008 Good point about riding the line. By lvl 40 a character should be getting off the fence and be identifiable with some organization that has friends and enemies. I'll agree with your take on Smuggler being mixable with other tags to give cops a clue that you're "a person of interest" while still letting you identify yourself with a real faction, but for that to work the smuggler ID would have to be available on some lawful bases. Maybe the major shipping firms (Univ, Bowex, Gateway, Republican). CP Smuggling Vs Legal trading - Zapp - 03-12-2008 Actually, you can't shoot at someone with a Smuggler ID when their hold is empty. Against server rules. Police/navy treat it the same as a Trader ID unless, unless, unless they have contraband. Smuggling Vs Legal trading - pipsqueak - 03-12-2008 Well I will stick to my point of view... No one is a smugglar till there is any thing illegal in their hold. Every one is an honest trader right ? Pirates Use pirate ID cause there are certain restrictions associated with that ID. Don't believe me ? go try to pirat esome one with a trader ID. My point is IF I am a trader, why do I have to be affiliated with any one? I am just trading...If you want to be a trader for Liberty Navy, use their tag. Same way, currently there is no difference between a trader and a smugglar ID. I am not getting any discount for carrying the ID, Pirates pirate me the same way... IF I have cardi and trader ID they let me go. Police kills me if they catch me. No difference whether I have a smugglar ID or a Trader ID. Its the same ID (differenct symantics maybe) and as I far as I am concerned, I'd rather look like a respectable trader than a smugglar. |
