' Wrote:hey there....

gallia is in a seperate folder under music but same story
IMHO feel free to replace....not quite the same feel as freelancer but its ok
im sure the artist worked hard but....not my style

i travel everywhere but ya....some systems the music you will never hear unless you leave the tradelanes

im still not happy with the volume level compared to vanilla FL music
is it the format or what?
probably with some combination of compression and amping it would work out but it distorts easily

The only thing that can fix the volume level is editing it with any kind of software (Adobe one, for alike). I'm not quite sure, but I believe that format has nothing to do with it, unless it's the quality fault.

I'm still quite stuck with Liberty and Rheinland. Any ideas what I should use? Homeworld and Halo just doesn't fit very much.

The reason you are having different volume levels is because they are different productions with different mastering and no normalization done in between each other.

Mass Effect also has a brilliant soundtrack, so does Deus Ex 3.

As long as it is wave, you can put whatever you want (trololo man for example:D)

However, FL uses a custom compression, that is why their wave files are smaller (and crappy)

Chev's Ultimate Soundtrack Mod - EvilSpok - 01-06-2012

im using a blade runner track...blade runner blues for new york....
nice and long like 8 minutes...good if your sitting around

for rheinland i would suggest something like a starship troopers track
very militaristic

ohh and i was looking through soundtracks last night and noticed the main theme for
"The Black Hole"...very old disney flick but the song is really sweet

im using FLAC files with audacity then converting to wave...very high quality
but my next step i think will be to compress them first then amp them "without clipping"

vanilla FL music is just SOOO loud compared to mine and vanilla isnt that loud to begin with

Chev that's really cool!
How do you replace freelancer audio with custom audio?
I wanna do this for myself too ,
Already for half a year i am flying with the music off , because the same songs over and over again drive me nuts.
Does any kind of .Wav work?
Would be nice if someone made a tutorial for dummies how to do it ...

All music is located here: \DISCOVERY OR FREELANCER FOLDER\DATA\AUDIO\MUSIC

Mainly, the music is divided into sectors: Liberty (music_li), Rheinland (music_rh), Kusari (music_ku), Bretonia (music_br), Independent Worlds (music_iw), Sigma (music_sigma), Omega (music_omega), Omicron (music_omicron), Tau (music_tau).

Then, the tracks are divided into three types: space (ex: music_li_space), danger (ex: music_br_danger) and battle (ex: music_tau_battle).

All the rest are the bar, planet landing sequences (that takes 30 seconds) and death tune.

Oh, and Discovery music folder, there's separated folder for Gallia, called "DISCOVERY".

as far as the tutorial goes....

i started with this

http://the-starport.net/freelancer/forum/v...p?topic_id=2623

and started fooling around with it only a couple weeks ago so no expert

however all the advice about altering the ini files, converting to 24khz, and using the sound recorder all seems outdated or pointless

all ive done is use Audacity to take either an MP3 or FLAC file....then edit it to make it louder with amplify and/or compress and/or normalize and turn that straight into a wav file and rename it and drop it in the music folder

works just fine without any editing but im still figuring out how to make it both loud and good quality without converting it to mpeg or some crappity crap

the files end up being roughly 50mb in size but doesnt seem to effect performance whatsoever

Already testing the mod. Been in Rheinland, Omega and Bretonia already. Took some missions. At the moment, I like what I'm hearing.

Thanks to Erica Hartmann I was able to deal with those stupid volume problems.
