My question: Will the shields turn on AFTER the first attack? E.g you shoot a mortar, and it hits the base. Does it hit the shield, or the hull?

Just so I'm getting this right.

At server restart, the shield turns off automatically.

- Base gets attacked, the shields activate and start draining fuel

Shields will stay ON and using fuel until
- Server restart
- Manually turning them off.

"They must be deactivated manually (or at the moment by a server restart)."

The words 'at the moment' suggest that server restarts might only be a temporary problem.

I would suggest that the initial hit you will take to your base before the shield goes up - wont be an issue unless your base is nearly dead anyway.

what if somone comes along wnd shoots a gallic BS forward gun at it.. surly instadeath for the base?

You'd need between ~12 and 37 gallic BS forward guns hitting the base simultaneously to instakill a fully repaired base, depending on the level...
