You know, if people multibox with one computer wouldn't they have the same IP and you'd see that?

:L

I've found my base to be good for transfering stuff =P

Its trustworthy, has 70,000 cargo and sells things for $1

Yes, another nice use of bases. And it make sense inRP too when you are transferring armors or thursters to another ship in base :)

IPs are generally unique to a single router (NOT a single computer or person), so an IP alone isn't good enough to decide whether someone is multiboxing or not.

I for one want it reinstated. There are very few people left here that I would trust with items that are on when I am,so I usually do a transfer myself. Its the safest way for me to do it.No hassles,no problems.I take less than 5 minutes to do it,and usually try to do it when the server load is less than 95%...and for 5 min or less for transfer time there shouldn't be any complaints about it.
So I vote yes.

Voting on Yes. this feature are very useful. and instead of using 2 PCs you will see that someone multiboxing if what

Multiple Freelancers - Sirius - 04-17-2012

I will vote yes, but I allready can run 2 or more freelancer.exe in same time, use it only for items(weapons/mines/armors/cds/cms/scanners).

It's amazing how someone knowing so much can know so little - about how things actually work. How many times has it been said on here that just being on a single IP is NOT proof that someone is multi-boxing? More than once, right?

After all, if you happen to have a LAN party, or more than once person living in a house that runs Freelancer, you'd ALL have the same IP - as seen from the outside. Sure, your ROUTER will assign all of your individual computers different IP's on your subnet, but from outside - it's all the same IP.

That would tend to indicate that perhaps the admins have ways of tracking things past the IP, wouldn't it? Otherwise everyone who's had their little brother playing at the same time would be banned - and we know that hasn't happened.

And lo, I can state with complete assurance that my knowledge is correct that admins DO have additional ways of tracking what happens when you play Discovery. Not going to say what they are - but tracking the IP is only a small part of it. However, leaving it up would make it even easier to track and detect multi-boxing...

I've contacted with Cannon, he's told me it's was disabled and he's not decided yet - bring it back or not.
So, I started this topic with poll - do you like to see this feature back or not? It's was so useful to transfer things.
Let's help Cannon to decide:)

I vote Yes as well. So convienient to transfer goods. Beats jettisoning and logging the other guy in and hope that the spot you jettisoned was close enough to where your ship is so you could see the cargo (6k range) on your scanner...Have lost thousands of silver ore due to this.

I COULD swap over to one of my other machines and load up freelancer there to do cargo swaps but its such a pain. alt-tabbing is way easier than getting up, especially if the other machines are doing stuff or not with me/in the car, etc. (in the case of laptops)

As far as abuse, I don't really see how it helps much, unless you're just trying to cut down on abusers who happen to only have 1 machine. Which i'm sure some nutbag will make a discrimination argument for... (not me) but those with multiple machines can still multibox, and gain an 'unfair' advantage (is it really unfair they have multiple computers when you can just go buy one?)

Also just FYI, for you techie-noobs out there there are ways of identifying individial computers behind a sinlge IP address, its called port translation. How do you think all the web servers keep all your different web sessions separated when they think they're just talking to one person (ip address) Like when you and 150 other people are all on facebook at the same time at the same university or whatnot. Now whether or not you can get the router to report the actual mac address of the port owner and therefore seeing if its a separate physical network card (identifying physical computer in most cases) I'm not too sure on, probably could on your residential firewalls, but good luck on any real routers....Anyways, as the 1980s scientists used to say in the old movies: " We can make it better, We have the technology"
