As for a base on the Cali lane... You're not the first person to mention it. The idea was floating around the Republic of Liberty govt chat for a long time.
The results would be as follows:
- Base would have to be rebuilt three times, as it would get someone appearing in the early stages and shooting it.
- Once the base is successfuly constructed with maxed out defense, there would be a series of huge battles, and a long siege.
- If the base survives the siege, there would be Q_Q from pirates.
- Piracy would move to the other side of the NY/Cali gate, onto the West point/Cali tradelane.
- No overall gain.

Siege from a couple of bombers and occasional mortars is uselss. Just take the example of the 'sair base today and what amount of BSs was needed to take it down.
