Disco today. ? - Strichev - 05-27-2012 Didn't a similar thread appear one year ago? Disco today. ? - Mickk - 05-27-2012 ' Wrote:Didn't a similar thread appear one year ago? Every now and then a thread along a similar theme to this pops up. It gets a bunch of posts in it, then it either gets locked due to trolling or other nastiness or it eventually just faaades away and disappears into the depths of the forum, never to be seen again. At about that point another 'Disco is dying' thread shows up. Disco, or at least this forum, has been around since 2005, possibly earlier. As far as I can see it has slowed down a bit, but as has already been noted, there are exams and various other things going on in Real Life at the moment that are keeping people from playing. That plus the usual thing of people leaving the server when something 'new' is introduced that they don't agree with, means that for a certain amount of time there will be less people around. I can't see Disco 'dying' at any point in the near future. Disco today. ? - Jihadjoe - 05-27-2012 ' Wrote:Didn't a similar thread appear one year ago? http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8950 2007. Have fun. In short, there were never any "good old days". Just we look back on fun times that were had, and forget about all the crap. Good stuff happens, bad stuff happens. Back when I joined, there were rarely more than 80 people on the server. This thread was posted at 5am UK time. The majority of players are european. I'm sure you can work out why there would be next to nobody on the server at that time. Sure, player counts have dropped a little since maybe a year ago... But honestly they're still way higher than they were when I joined the server. Discovery is doing good for itself, particularly considering it's a modified version of an ancient example of what has since become a deeply unfashionable genre of game. And if disco does die... So what? Everything comes and goes. Stability isn't really all it's cracked up to be. Disco today. ? - Linkero - 05-27-2012 Disco isnt dying, just preparing for the 2012 event........when nomads come and blast our butts to a different galaxy. I too have noticed a decline compared to 2-3 years ago. BUT, thats what happens after a while. Just need to hope more fresh meat comes with good RP. I know the frsh meat will, just not sure bout the good rp xD Disco today. ? - pitockm - 05-27-2012 when you play alot......its usual to get bored....its same for anything else... give your self a break and don't play for 1 week. once you got back.... you know what to do....Ofc...this will help if you Don't face Real life problems. and disco cant die. for sure. Disco today. ? - J.Bates - 05-27-2012 Either take a break as mentioned or get yourself back in the game and do something entertain yourself. Go help out new players. I've noticed plenty show up from time to time in game before hitting up these forums. Unfortunately quite a few only show up for a limited one off time. Go make a new character or something for some faction or group that you've never tried. I dunno, I can think of hundreds of things to do personally that I wanna try still. Feel glad you've got time to spend in game where I unfortunately haven't. Reason being I've got put up with uni exams at the moment and whole bunch of other RL things. I can imagine others are probably in the same situation. Depending what their uni semester timetable is. Disco today. ? - Xelon - 05-27-2012 It was already said.. exams and similar stuff is going down in the next few weeks/months. Back in February on the weekends in 4.85 in the evening there where around 200 online for a few hours. I belive over summer vacation there will be more people playing.;) Disco today. ? - Ackarion - 05-27-2012 I find it interesting, the comment I posted at 5 am is a link to why it was posted. That had nothing to do with why the post is started. I also find it interesting the thought of school has or may have a contribution to the numbers. I will repeat some of what I said, "weekends you are having to wait" references peak times, so there goes the 5am thoughts. Uni, may factor in to less player but not of this average turn out. My concern, I should have been a bit more detailed, but it was 5am and lack of coffee was a factor. Influx of new player base. *Yes it has been on the decline and yes there is a trickle of new players* What can be done to entice new players. A link here or there. A fresh post in mainstream traffic. Is there a advert to be placed. (Yea, aware of some cost credits) Need to pick up the influx somehow. *Oh who said anything about disco dying by the way* Lets put some ideas out... Disco today. ? - Marburg - 05-27-2012 What I've always found funny (not haha funny, but sad funny) is how many people around here are conditioned like cattle to think that more is better. More players=more whining, leading to more anger about and demands of more rules...and then, more anger resulting from more rules & more whining about players being angry about all the other angry whiners around. The whole Zen of Meh is knowing that even if the playerbase dropped by a consistent 75% Who cares? It would still be the single most populated freelancer server on the planet & those numbers and simple word of mouth is and always has been enough to draw a regular stream of new players.
