I'd like to see the change, but wont die if it doesn't happen.

Interaction hardly takes place anyway. Why make it harder?

Also I like the cat&mouse games with player list, chars that log off, log on, etc. Makes a trader's life challenging and boring routes interesting.

Keep system list.

And I say that as someone who flies tagged traders that are primary victims of meta.

it just gives advantage to everybody that knows to use skype, adding yet another hurdle for newbie players

Ok the idea is nice and realistic, not knowing where is your prays or other predators ,not having a "global radar-scanner" to see whereabouts of other people so you put more effort in finding them as for example bounty hunting ,you don't know where is your target so idea pops up .... lets ask some people in system for info about that person mby offer a payment for that info and it will make an RP interaction even more interesting and rl like ...Ok cops will be more desirable to play ...but we already got a load of caps-military who's generally doing nothing special at least 50% of them and with such a poor RP that hurts, like some guy told everyone from system "Hey I r from Russia" ...then your like "WOOT !? You are an 100yo Russian flying a Liberty Cruiser !? Oh well that's cool!"*grins* ....and he was tagged as an official ....

Ok metaGamers will be disappointed , interaction will be down but we can try it at least and see how it will work.
I'm on Disco from 2007, and a lot of ideas ,that are in motion right now, was presented and liked/disliked like this one ,and I see lot of people votes YES so I guess we can try this and judge it later if people don't like it you can always change it back .

Actually, is this something that can be implemented with scanner? Maybe you trade off long-range system scans for cargo scanning

Then your scanners will be overcrowded when you enter some high population system ,and not to mention other scanners will be totally useless but it's OK at least we are discussing some ideas that will mby make this work ...better then just saying YES or NO Big Grin

Yay this should implemented asap - would make trading/piracy exciting again.

The way things are right now, I don't even bother putting on an armor while trading.
Cause let's be honest, the only way - to catch any trader who knows how to use the chat list properly - is by F1 piracy.

In fact a total fog of war option would get my vote - chatlist with ship names only: no omniscient system/region info.

However it works only if the server got the numbers, I am all for it but major system reduction should be done as well in order to enable the interaction between players. Adding stuff without central idea why they got added brought us Gallia, this would be disaster if it is added now on the depopulated server without changing few other things:
-reduce the systems a bit creating activity hubs, the 100 average players nowadays does not need even the half of the existing systems.

+1

I agree, and without the system name, it can be accepted as inrp, so we wont have people complaining about "metagaming" that EVERYBODY does.

Hm, this idea was discussed before I think. And I always was the opinion of adding such system. However, since the activity dropped and probably won't get any higher till the next update, I'm not sure anymore.

But a trial period wouldn't hurt. (Voted nothing yet.)

-reduce the systems a bit creating activity hubs, the 100 average players nowadays does not need even the half of the existing systems.
-give option via special base produced equipment to detect the players in the systems as well.
-rebalance the trade system so there are like 10-20 top runs and other sux because trading unpirated would break the said food chain in discovery.
In general no point to add it to 4.87 since it wont work well because the other more important things are not done.

Amen to that, especially the bolded part.

With current amount of systems, amount and distribution of players, it'll be a potential disaster.
Don't think only in "I'm a pirate, will it make my life better?" categories, there're plenty of other roles.

Just an example - hell, I'll gather RNCs and go on syswhailing around Liberty, without entering NY. Or do same as a Hessian in NB, or as an Outcast/Rogue in Liberty, again.

Now, tell me the chances to intercpet fleet's/pirate's gang movement, when you won't have a single friggin idea on their location, because we won't be even touching TLs/JGs.

Now imagine same in Omicrons. How do you like Corsair/Outcast fleet suddenly dropping on Malta's/Crete's orbit and ganking the hell out of everything before they even gather? Or Hessian fleet on Crete's orbit? Because nobody saw them coming.

Are IMG guys really willing to search for a bunch of Ranseurs and Stortats "Somewhere in the Taus"? Same applies for Colonials and Gallics. It's already hard to find somebody even if you know the exact system he's in. when the person in question doesn't want to be found.

I can also imagine that such change will provide ground for meta-spying, i.e. creating characters for the opposing faction just for the sake of joining their group, and then spoil their general location over TeamSpeak or Skype, because it will matter in an environment like that.
A dick move? Certainly. Will it be used under those conditions? Definitely.

What I'm trying to say here, is that proposed change affects far, FAR more thing than Pirate/Trader interaction.
