If you insult someone with the word you could be in trouble, but the filter might not get it in game because well we have guns using the name in the game: This is absolute crap I do not use the word Btard in a censored form so as to avoid the swear filter because it is a Rp insult not a generic one so there is nothing to avoid. Btard is used ingame all the time as a Rp insult, I have even seen admins vindicating use of the word. So I think the context in which the word is used should be the deciding factor as to whether it should be moderated or not. We've decided it's not a problem, but I would remind you that there are plenty of terms you can make fun of someone that are much more fun. What I have been in trouble for in the past is irrelevant in this situation as the word used was done so in a Rp context not an offensive one so do not bring that up here. You have moderated my RP post without thought as to the context of the RP use of the word here. You have just blindly moderated it because you can and replaced the word with the new word CAD which means nothing. You also did not provide me with any prior warning to moderating my post but thought you could do so and it would be ok. Well no mcsummerlovin it's not ok and I demand it be remoderated back to the original word or an ADMIN come on here and provide final deliberation on the matter! Your moderation has interfered with my RP without just cause. RE: B**tard an acceptable insult used in in-game rp alot yet... - Challenger - 04-10-2013 Coarse language is prohibited on the forums for two reasons: 1. Many people experience shock or abhorrence when they see such language. You can argue that this is irrational, absurd, or otherwise (and it says a great deal about you if you do) but invoking these emotions in others on a whim is irresponsible and not tolerated. 2. Such language drags the level of discussion in to the gutter. If you can't talk like a civil, intelligent human being then maybe this isn't the place for you. Outside of professional literature, curse words are almost always a manifestation of an author's shortcomings. If you do not intend to invoke intense feelings when posting, why make your language inflammatory or coarse? If you DO intend to invoke these emotions, I hope you have an excellent reason. Justifying the desecration of a language on grounds that a TV show did it first . . . This is a new low. RE: B**tard an acceptable insult used in in-game rp alot yet... - Aingar - 04-10-2013 Well, either we rename the mentioned council gun from the game, or we consider the 'B' word acceptable, double-standards are pretty crappy no matter how you look at them. Personally, I don't find the word any more profane than let's say "damn". RE: B**tard an acceptable insult used in in-game rp alot yet... - Hone - 04-10-2013 How about the fact that the NPCs themselves say it? "Those Bastards just killed one of my pack!" RE: B**tard an acceptable insult used in in-game rp alot yet... - Marburg - 04-10-2013 Personally, I'd like to see the swear filter gutted a little bit. I don't know how many times over the years I'd gotten angry over posts of mine that were auto-censored. Like for instance: "You Donkey f******, c** bubbling, c*** liking, menstrual blood drinking capwhore of a s***stain." There was no problem. It was all in RP, If my character didn't say it, it would have been oorp for him. You see, it's all very simple...what the admins & mods don't understand is that I have absolutely no imagination, and for the sake of argument, when I say s***! I mean s***!... I can't stand taking the time to type out things only to find some letters replaced with asterisks after I post. It's like I never said, "You Donkey f******, c** bubbling, c*** liking, menstrual blood drinking capwhore of a s***stain." at all, because no one in the entire world is smart enough to read past all those f****** asterisks. Every time the forums add an asterisk, a baby angel gets a non-hypoalergenic d**** rammed up its a** by a forum staff that cares nothing for freedom of speech. Or, I could simply be taking it all too seriously. Naw. that'd just be crazy. RE: B**tard an acceptable insult used in in-game rp alot yet... - SummerMcLovin - 04-10-2013 I had seen you were previously called up for the tone and content of your RP posts, this seemed rather similar. However, it appears I made a mistake and so I went back to fix it. However, if you look up the word "cad", it would be a particularly strong insult to a gentleman such as Hall, rather suited to a conversation between two 'proper' Bretonian officers. I chose it to be less 'offensive' while keeping the RP intact, but after deliberation with the rest of the team I was told it wasn't a problem. As a player instead of a Moderator (this paragraph can be ignored I mean), Challenger brought up a couple of good points. There are other options for variety's sake and not ruining the 'shock value' of any profanity. Also, my forum name is SummerMcLovin, thank you. RE: B**tard an acceptable insult used in in-game rp alot yet... - Marburg - 04-10-2013 my sarcasm may have been lost in translation while typing :/ On the bottom line, I just figure that people that get all bent out of shape because of a silly little swear filter have a neurotic block on imagination & simply need to lighten up overall. Bastard ain't the worst word to find it's way onto the forums, but people who get irritated over such a asinine thing are a dime a dozen. "Whahh" I say. No one's life is gonna change one way or the other if the word is allowed or not. ...but the things that always remains constant is that when an inch is given, a mile is taken, & one should never underestimate the immaturity of herd animals RE: B**tard an acceptable insult used in in-game rp alot yet... - space.dust - 04-10-2013 (04-10-2013, 12:55 AM)Dusty Lens Wrote: Please remember that these forums are designed for a general audience and profanity should be kept in check lest a child be exposed to subject material for which they are not prepared. I find this part of your story to be far worse then any random uttering of dozens of curses. If a child is playing this game and reading these forums their parents are going to be heaps more disturbed and upset over such topics as highlighted in orange above. If curses get filtered and not distasteful stories about things much worse, then the policies are pretty off target. For my own opinion I don't care, just like above those are things in life and shutting your eyes to them will not make them go away. People who curse are another thing in life, you will eventually be confronted by those who use them either on the internet or in person and it becomes your choice to tag along and use them too or not. I've always laughed at the attempts to filter cursing by parents in the vain hopes that their child will grow up clean and pure. In the end you want to teach your kids to make better choices and to present themselves more respectable, it's not something you obtain by keeping your eyes closed or by sheltering but by experiencing and adapting. The filter is not that bad anyways, anyone who want's to make sense of what people say can, it's not that big a deal. People in real life forced to listen to people who curse a lot just drown them out already anyways so no real change there from here.
RE: B**tard an acceptable insult used in in-game rp alot yet... - Marburg - 04-10-2013 Let you in on a little secret: the swear filter is not in place to protect young minds from vulgarities ect. That's not the reason the rule & filter exist. People like to gravitate to that explanation because that's the laziest way to complain about its existence. Fact of the matter is, it has to do with overall quality control of the entire forums & never had anything to do with the actual words themselves. The staph have never operated under the delusion that they are to act as surrogate parents, protecting children from whatever. That's just a disco pop fantasy with no real basis & for the record...In the normal run of things, people can mostly post whatever RP they want within basic reason of the existing forum rules & when pretender yahoos like widow come out of the woodwork to wax injured about minor content, like words caught by a swear filter, all it does is shine a spotlight on the whole section & piss those of us who habitually prefer the option to push the envelope of taste, right the 'eff off. (nerd) Also, the Shitsuki district was dissolved and merged into the Ibara district in March 2005. Edit: Yeah, apparently it blocks S h i t s u k i. |
